Mark your hospitals and don't use schools for terrorist ammunition depots or refuge sites. Better yet, those who legitimately use hospitals and schools should refuse to allow terrorists to step inside them. Even better yet, non-terrorists should simply kill terrorists themselves, thus saving themselves the danger and heartache of collateral damage.
No nation under attack by any enemy can simply decline to engage in military action because of the risk of harming non-combatants. That's why war is hell and should be avoided, but when it cannot be avoided, it must be prosecuted with every possible resource and no inhibitions so as to attain victory and end the conflict as quickly and humanely as possible by waging total war on those who presume to engage in belligerent and bellicose actions towards other nations.

Only by doing so will civilian casualties be minimized, along with minimizing casualties among defenders.

Well, we probably shouldn't be bombing in the rather chaotic fashion of the moment, with each nation choosing targets based on political expediency (particularly the Russians...)

But at least a fair proportion of allied strikes have been very specifically targeted, and destroyed ISIS vehicles, HQs etc.

Any missile or bomb which destroys those bastards, and only those bastards, is a win for humanity. But currently, this is not being done as surgically as one would wish, from media reports I have read...
There is probably no better way of converting moderates into extremists than by bombing them.

... which is what happened in New York on September 11, 2001.

It turned a whole lot of reasonable Merkins into bloodthirsty warmongers.
Which all the rest of y'all need to remember. Fuck with us and we'll bomb you back into the stone age.

Were those who developed nuclear power, and those who continue to develop and maintain this resource, immoral agents?

Over to you Seth.
Nuclear power is among the safest and cleanest forms of power. If you want to keep a modern society functioning, then in the near term, absent fossil fuels, nuclear is it. There is no viable alternative to generate the amount of power needed.

All this talk of "morality?" Where does this come from? Nuclear power exists. Fission happens and can be made to happen. It's not "moral" or "immoral." There are costs and benefits, risks and rewards. That's all. All this talk of "moral" energy sources is just religious thinking muddying the waters.

What ought to have been done in the aftermath of 9/11/2001?

Reagan was President from 1980 to 1988, and arms were provided to the Afghans at that time in order to fight off the Soviet Union which had invaded the country in a war of conquest. That's not the "aftermath" of 9/11/01.

You'd suggest a better course of action than going after the culprits of 9/11/01 in the location where the culprits were located would be to have just murder children in Islamic schools in Saudi Arabia?

The madrassas that are said to have focused on warring against infidels developed mainly in Pakistan and Afghanistan, by the way.

But, let's rewind to September/October 2001. What would have been your reaction had George W. Bush had said the following in a speech:

"Good morning, my fellow Americans.

I am here to address a grave and growing problem in the world. The United States was attacked. A group calling itself Al Qaeta downed the World Trade Center buildings, drove a plane into the Pentagon, and but for the heroism of some passengers on Flight 93, would have likely destroyed another target. This is the same group that bombed the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing hundreds of Americans and others. This is the same group that bombed the USS Cole and Khobar Towers, killing more Americans. This is the same group that tried to take down the Twin Towers in 1993 with a truck bomb. They have issued a Declaration of War Against the United States and published it throughout the world. They are located mainly in Afghanistan, but have cells throughout the world.

So, my fellow Americans, we will take action against these murderers. This morning I issued orders for the American Sixth Fleet to enter the Persian Gulf, and our air forces are already in motion from Diego Garcia and other bases. Bombing has commenced of Mecca, Medina, Riyadha and other major locations in Saudi Arabia. The primary targets are mosques and their associated religious schools, called "madrasses." We have also issued a call from the King and other ruling family members of Saudi Arabia to step down and leave Saudi Arabia, so that the Coalition can set up a provisional Saudi government. Absent their agreement to step down by noon tomorrow, we will destroy the Saudi royal family's infrastructure, command, control and communications, and eliminate this pernicious threat.

We are not at war with Islam, mind you. We are just going to bomb religious Islamic schools that we think are teaching fundamentalist messages. The children and young adults attending these madrassas are the real enemy. We will not be attacking Al Qaeta or its training camps in Afghanistan. That would be stupid, and shortsighted.

Thank you, my fellow Americans, and God Bless."

I was referring to all these arbitrary declarations that this chemical or power source is "immoral" or this device or that device is "immoral."

Guns are immoral! Nuclear power is immoral! What silliness....

tl;dr. Invading Iraq was wrong. Invading A'stan was arguably a waste of time. Saudi Arabia is the giant elephant in the room. Nothing gets sorted in the middle east till SA gets cut off the teat.

Don't you think that bombing mosques and associated Islamic schools full of Muslim children would create more terrorists than it eliminated?
