Murders are a better comparison, because the level of reporting is roughly a hundred percent in all countries.

In some countries, reporting of violent crime is handled in a very different way to other countries. It generally reflects how seriously domestic violence is taken.
In the UK, they now record it as violent crime, if a kid pulls his sister's hair.

The statistics collected are utterly different in nature between the 2 reports, both in the nature of the data, and the definitions of violence. One would require further information, and the services of a professional statistician with many hours to spare if one wanted to make a valid comparison of violence in the 2 countries.
