They knocked on my door today. Two old white biddys and a little black boy, about five years old.
Where do they get them?

I was a major disappointment. I just politely said that I wasn't interested.
The little kid must have dampened my powder. Maybe that's what he was for.

As usual, I spent the next thirty minutes with witty things I should have said popping into my head.
Too late.

So if you go out preaching the good word, take a little kiddy. It disarms even the worst of cynics.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

They are nice people. If you were to keep people as pets you can't fault JW's. Van Morrison's parents were JW and he overcame the odds. I imagine my wife likes cheering up with some fiction after me lecturing about the credible end of the world?

We had snow but I shoveled the path to the door for JWs. Nobody came. But two weeks some Baptists came. I didn't get to check their credentials. I was not the one at the door.

Yeah, Van beat the odds, and became a Scientologist.

Scumple heaps praises on how nice JW's are as people, the ones I've encountered anyway, does that make me a JW? Do I look like I'm about to bring the cavalry in the form of Jehovah and all his angels over the hill to save you in my postings? :nono:

Van's pants are on fire.
themortonreport.com wrote: The Massive List of Celebrities That Departed Scientology

Many famous musicians came through Scientology then left. Al Jarreau was involved on and off for years. Burton Cummings, leader of the Canadian rock group The Guess Who, did a drug detox program at Scientology's Narconon in Los Angeles, then got out of Scientology as he found out more about it. I met him at a party Paul McCartney gave after the "Wings Over America" tour in 1976. Arguably the best electric bass player alive, Stanley Clarke, was involved for years both when in a group with Chick Corea, and afterward, but is no longer involved. Van Morrison did quite a bit of Scientology in San Francisco via my former roommate, rock pianist Nicky Hopkins, then after leaving he came out with the album No Guru, No Method, No Teacher. Apparently, it took Van a bit longer to realize, as Elvis Presley once stated, "that son-of-a-bitchin' group. All they want is my money." (And the celebrity bragging status he would give them.) Numerous musicians came into Scientology via Corea and left, often very unhappily, such as Corea's former Return To Forever members: percussionist Airto Moreira; Moreira's wife, vocalist Flora Purim; and guitarist Al Di Meola.

In a recent Skeptics in the Pub meeting, we were shown Hubbardologist pamphlets that claimed they numbered "4 million and are the fastest growing religion in the world" every year from 1980 to around 1988. In fact, these days, they only total about 150,000 members. They have (and have always had) a habit of counting any and all previous members as current members.

Their high profile stems (at least in part) from their tactic of differentiating celeb members from their everyday saps. If you are a nobody, you get to pay ever increasing amounts of cash to progress up the Bridge to Total Freedom. If, on the other hand, you are a celebrity (or the church believes that you are likely to achieve such status soon) then this path is made far cheaper and the fringe benefits are oddly much more immediate.
