Re: Yo gun nuts!
Are you permitted to carry glorious Kalashnikov rifle, perhaps AKM variant, slung over ones back?

It has to be real! Real blood and real bodies.Gallstones wrote:mistermack wrote:I think the next step should be to legalise a duel.
It will have to happen in the middle of main street, at high noon.
Anybody openly carrying a gun can be challenged, and if you decline, you lose your carry licence.
Think of the benefits to tourism. I'd pay to watch.
The rules are that you walk towards each other with the gun in a holster, and each duelist has to spit at least twice, before drawing and firing. Stetsons are optional, but recommended.
Some people might think this an irresponsible suggestion, but don't forget, it's only the baddie that gets killed.
These scenarios are play acted at numerous popular Western tourist spots. It is still only acting, for entertainment.

Technically, yes, in most places other than the City of Denver (if you are a resident), but practically you will have many interviews with police while doing so in any urban area. Semi-auto only of course...unless you're lucky enough to own a fully-automatic version that's on the NFA register.AvtomatKalashnikova wrote:Are you permitted to carry glorious Kalashnikov rifle, perhaps AKM variant, slung over ones back?
I prefer HK's however, maybe Colt AR-15s. I'm not interested in a different-caliber weapon manufactured to the benefit of Russia or China right at the moment.

Perhaps comrade is unaware of Bulgarian Arsenal SLR-106 rifle, manufactured in NATO nation and firing NATO cartridge? HK make fine rifle, but many fine Kalashnikovs can be acquired for price of one HK. As to AR-15, is like Barbie toy for American man, play dress up with accessories put together like LEGO.Seth wrote:Technically, yes, in most places other than the City of Denver (if you are a resident), but practically you will have many interviews with police while doing so in any urban area. Two Russian soldiers is fighting Chechens. Is see lone Chechen some meters away. Russian man called Boris, he see Chechen man have DShK. Boris say to comrade "Why you think Chechen man have such big DShK firing 12.7x108mm rounds? Is because Chechen man have tiny penis!"
Boris get big confidence, because Boris have penis of average lengths. Boris say to comrade "I go to kill Chechen man, show world tiny penis of him!" Boris make run toward Chechen man position. POW! 12.7x108mm explode arm of Boris. POW! 12.7x108mm explode leg of Boris. POW! 12.7x108mm explode face of Boris, is look like rotten pumpkin.
Did Chechen man have tiny penis? Nobody know! But is known thanks to DShK firing 12.7x108mm cartridge that Chechen msn that day still had normal size arm, normal size leg, and normal size face. Chechen man go home that day and lay in bed with Chechen wife and use penis of unknown size one more time.
Re: Yo gun nuts!
The hardest thing about concealed carry is keeping it concealed. You see, in many places "flashing" your concealed handgun is actually a crime if someone is upset by seeing it. Stupid laws. And that is precisely WHY the open carry movement is gaining steam. In some cases permit holders have been cited for "printing through", which means revealing the outline of the handgun through clothing without it actually being visible. It's thought to be "disorderly conduct" because it might throw the hoplophobes into a tizzy.Tero wrote:Ah. I am dumb about guns. I did not imagine the same gun could be concealed and open at different times. I was going to have a committed holster gun and a hiddne gun.
In the past, open carry was the law of the land and concealing your handgun was (in many places) considered to be something only criminals did. However, at that time the populace was inured to seeing armed citizens so there was no reason to become afraid.
The need for concealed carry permits is an artifact of the rather long history of violating people's (particularly blacks) right to keep and bear arms openly, to the point that the general populace is so unfamiliar with seeing weapons anywhere but on a police officer that they panic at the sight, or mere outline of a gun.
Part of the agenda of the open carry movement is to begin to desensitize the public to the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms, which quintessentially includes the right to carry them openly.
If it's illegal to carry concealed, and it's illegal to carry openly, then the right to keep and bear arms is meaningless. That is why the Supreme Court has been ruling in favor of the right of individuals to be armed for self protection of late. And that's why, for example, both the District of Columbia and Illinois have been ordered by the federal courts to amend their concealed carry laws to provide a method by which a law-abiding citizen can obtain and carry a handgun either inside or outside of the home. Illinois was the last state that flatly refused to issue CCW permits.
Every other state has a process for issuing such permits, although several of them deliberately make the process so difficult and expensive that it's all but impossible to obtain one. Those abusive laws are being overturned bit by bit though.
Hopefully the new Congress will pass the nationwide CCW permit reciprocity law that will force every state to honor the permits of every other state, whether they want to or not.

Re: Yo gun nuts!
I must agree that the Kalashnikov is one of the best battle rifles ever made. They are extremely reliable under all conditions and very easy to use. However, the same loose tolerances that allow the AK to operate in sand, mud, dirt, snow or water make the AK unsuitable for most long-range shooting. The platform is simply not nearly as accurate at long range as HKs and other types of semi-automatic (or automatic) rifles. Even the Dragunov "sniper rifle" is not as accurate as my off-the-shelf Springfield AR-10T.AvtomatKalashnikova wrote:Perhaps comrade is unaware of Bulgarian Arsenal SLR-106 rifle, manufactured in NATO nation and firing NATO cartridge? Supreme accuracy is not really a requirement of a battle rifle or assault rifle to begin with, as they are intended for a different role than the long-range sniper platform, and in the case of the AK, functional reliability is the most important attribute it has.
Another reason I don't particularly like them is because of their stamped sheet-metal receiver, which makes them look cheap and cheesy to me. I prefer finer craftsmanship in my rifles, like the Sako TRG-42.
But I will concede that the AK and its variants are excellent, inexpensive weapons for their designated purpose.
