Re: Your heritage?
I'm half German-from-Russia (not straight German!), one quarter Danish, one quarter Swedish. Three grandparents born in the US, one in Russia.

Re: Your heritage?
Half German on my mum's side, Half English on my dad's side.
My mum's side are mostly farmers from what was Silesia, Prussia (now in Poland). My grandfather was part of the mass evacuation of Germans following WWII.
I've only managed to trace back to my great grandfather on my father's side, but they were mostly middle class, working in finances or business during peace time and all three generations (father, grandfather, great-grandfather) served in the military and were in various conflicts, some of them colonial.
The only interesting thing I have found by searching my surname is an aristocratic family and a Prime Minister from the 19th century. As far as I know I'm related to none of them.

I don't have a heritage: My wealthy Grandfather disinherited me and nobody else has accrued enough cool stuff to count.

Re: Your heritage?
My dad was a Captain in the Merchant Navy.
So was his dad, and his father before him, and probably his before him as well.
I come from a long line of seamen.

Scottish on my mum's side, French on my Dad's side, with some sizzling gypsies thrown in for good measure (it was in Lancashire Life, so it must be true).
A frankly horrific set of antecedents - thistle-munching, face-painting savages, randy,garlic-slobbering cowards and people who will tarmac your drive for you. Shameful.....

Re: Your heritage?
My family is mostly English, so that's what I consider myself as. I'm actually very proud to be English(Cue XC and his 'you shouldn't be proud of things you can't control' schtick, blah, blah, blah.), because we did some awsum things. We created civil society, modern commerce, we invented the train and countless other technical innovations, and we took over two continents and controlled half the world.
What did your people do? Invent a new sort of spoon?
Are there any cute English ladies on here? I would love to breed my kids back to type.
(And not LP, she's a damn Scot.
)

I'm of Hiberno-Norman stock descended from a 15th Century Earl who came to Ireland to stay with his rich relatives and live a cushy life or to flee the repercussions of some ill-advised dalliance with some well-connected bit of fluff.
At least I'm housebroken.

Re: Your heritage?
I'm roughly half swede-treader and half wild monoglot Welsh from Macynthleth.
One of my grandfathers was a fumigator, killing pests and vermin on board ships as they arrived in dock. He killed a guy by accident once when he slept in his bunk and didn't wake with the alarm. My other grandfather was a gunner in the merchant navy... he had some horrendous stories from WWII - hundred of kids being killed on the deck of a ship transporting them to America - prisoners from the Bismarck covered in cordite burns, etc.

Re: Your heritage?
I'm British, but not probably not old school Brythonic stylee, since we've had a bit of disruption since then, what with those pesky invading:
Dutch
Norman French (Scandanavians, Franks(?) & Celts(?))
Danes & Norwegians
Saxons & Angles
Irish
Romans (& auxiliaries from all over their empire)
& then those damned immigrants taking all our women & jobs - bloody Huguenots!
All these will have interbred with the locals who in turn probably pitched up & interbred with the then locals & so on back to the end of the last iceage or so.
In addition there's a lot of trade with Europe - I know of a few towns on the East Coast of Scotland that take their names from Dutch, implying that traders settled there.
So between a bit of rape & philandering I'm pretty sure I was born in Scotland & probably to my parents, but beyond that who knows.
