I think that religion is a bit more like that fungus that infects South American ants, and takes control of their brains, making them climb to the tops of trees, to spread the spores of the fungus as far as possible.

It proves that a mindless entity can go on to control the minds of higher animals, and force them to keep propagating the parasitic/predatory mindless entity. Very like religion.

I'm waiting with trepidation for a sexually transmitted disease to evolve in humans that makes physiological & behavioural changes involving the production of very effective sex pheromones and totally uninhibited behaviour...
