One has to wonder why, if the US is such a shitty place, we need fences and militias to keep people out. If what BG or his ventriloquist dummy were true the US would be like the old Soviet Union, or Cuba, with fences and guards to keep people IN, not OUT.

I'll take observable factual evidence over some half-wit's political agenda-based "research" any time.

I am totally happy to agree that there are many nations worse than the USA. Russia under Putin, for example.

However, in this case, I am reporting on the work done by Gregory Paul, and he compared the 17 nations I mentioned earlier. He did not mention Russia or any other nations.

You only needs fences etc. down south because Mexico is a poor, corrupt, violent third world shithole, that you shouldn't lower yourself to make comparisons with...

Lots of illegal immigrants from Canada, are there? Or European refugees arriving in boats, desperate to escape their socialist hell-holes?

The difference is that Seabass realises that the US has some problems. CES has the flag so stuffed up his arse that he couldn't countenance any problems with the US.

It's interesting to see Australia come in so low. That kind of reflects my feelings about the health of our society (although, I wouldn't have thought it was that low). It's hard to square the high rankings we get in other quality of life type surveys (usually finishing second by Norway, or thereabouts) with what I think are inherent problems here. Interesting stuff, anyway.

Just a comment about the Paul study. This is work done by an American academic, and published in an American magazine. It reflects concern by Americans about America. In other words, this is not about a non American (me) criticising the USA. It is a genuine concern that the USA needs to get its act together and do what is needed to create a better society.

To compare the USA to Mexico or Russia is another apples and oranges fallacy. It needs to be compared to its peers to determine how it should be performing. And it fails that comparison. The USA has a lot of in house cleaning to do.

To rEvo

About the low score for Australia.

While the article did not say this, my take would be the differences shown between Australia, NZ and the next ten nations would not be statistically significant. So, rather than saying Australia did badly, say that it was roughly average among the 17 most advanced nations.

Actually, yes, there are. They are Pakis, Somalis, Arabs (including terrorists) and other ethnicities who have been given "asylum" in Canada who then sneak across our northern border, and then there's the Chinese and other Asians who come by the Conex-load into our port cities. Mexican's ain't hardly the only ones trying to get in, there's plenty of Russians, Ukrainians, other Eastern Europeans, Frenchmen, Englishmen, and others who want to come to America because their socialist shitholes offer nothing but proletarian sameness and drudgery without hope of individual achievement or wealth.

But those Europeans are the smart ones with drive and innovative ideas who we like having, and like you not having, because they don't become welfare leeches, they build stuff and create wealth.

:funny:

So no.16 gets a pass because, really, it's average, really. And no.18 gets a free pass because it's a "third world shit hole".

Look at the actual numbers, Seabass. There is a hell of a difference between no. 17 and no.16, but beggar all between no. 16 and numbers 15 through to about no. 5.

The USA still looks very bad.
