Re: Rock n Roll - dead, on life support, or just in a coma?
I'd say yes. It can be massively profitable for the actual bands in a way album sales and months of touring may not be. Some bands will always capture a time or zeitgeist or push something forward, but even that undead tyrannosaur The Rolling Stones started in small venues, to get to that level you need to work work work.
A lot of the difference between now and previously is that bands popped out roughly 3 singles and an album every 12 to 18 months, they were in constant rotation. The bands or more likely singers these days are usually contracted for a 3 to 5 album deal (so I'm lead to believe) but given that promotion for such is now global this means even more time on the road, which means longer delays between albums and less airplay. The corporate pop acts that are in constant rotation still sell out arenas but probably put on a lot less shows to concentrate on their recorded work. However all of them have to endure life on the road, which is enough to drive anyone insane. I do not envy them.

This song kinda rocks.

Drummers will bring back rock. My iPod is 2/3 classical. In the rock department I found three drummers worth listening to in:
Rush
Blink 182
Beatles.
Zappa too, but I don't have those albums on iPod. Rolling Stones: charlie is just OK, not super.

Charlie is more than "OK"...He hasn't missed a lick in 50 years, and he doesn't play easy licks...Roy Haynes might be better, but he doesn't play rock&roll...

Yes but he is just a rock drummer. His band is not one that lends to much jazzy showing off. He's the best drummer for his band.

Went thru my Stones tracks. The old stuff is so poorly recorded it's hard to compare to even 60s drumers.
Charlie shines later tracks like Start Me Up. Tumbling Dice is ordinary. Beast of Burden is nice for a slower number.
But Sorry, I'll take Ringo over Charlie.

He has a new album! Afro jazz. Not going to save rock, though.

Apparently these guys are from my home town. I've seen any of them walking around.

I piped that through to my stereo. Startled the cat, but worked well for me.Animavore wrote:Apparently these guys are from my home town. I've seen any of them walking around.
