Bruno [dead guy] told Hubbard [the cop] he shouldn't have hit him, Hubbard said.

"He then somehow flipped me over onto my back and the subject began punching me on the left side of my face and head," Hubbard told detectives. "He was on top of me and I was in an extremely vulnerable position and I was exhausted from the struggle with the suspect.

"I don't know how many times he struck me, but I started to black out and saw lines across my eyes. He continued to strike me and I started to lose consciousness and I believed the suspect was not going to stop hitting me until he killed me.

"I feared for my life and I drew my weapon, fired two shots center mass."

A couple walking nearby included the nurse. They didn't see the start of the confrontation.

"But at the very end, the cop was underneath the civilian and had his head smashed very hard against the cement by the civilian," the nurse later told detectives. "I did not see any other circumstance than to shoot him. I mean he had to do something because he was gonna get a head bleed from the traumatic brain injury."
...

Hubbard was taken to a hospital as well. His injuries included a broken eye socket, a fractured cheekbone, a cut above his left eye that required two stitches and loss of feeling in the left side of his face.

Criminal number two needs to be charged with felony murder...

Criminal Tries One of the Oldest Tricks in the Book on Armed Woman – Here’s How It Worked Out for Him

A knife-wielding criminal, who police say tried to force his way into a Alabama woman’s home after claiming he needed help, is no longer living. He was shot dead by the female homeowner who feared for her life and that of her niece.

Another suspect was arrested and charged with first degree robbery in connection with the case on Friday morning.

Police say 18-year-old Mikel Steven Smith, of Marbury, Ala., first knocked on the door of the woman’s Autauga County home and told her he needed help and was “broke down.” When she came to the door, Smith pushed the door open and entered the home with a knife.

With her life clearly threatened, the armed woman shot the intruder several times. He was pronounced dead Friday at around 12:30 a.m. about 30 feet away from the home.

“Drag marks lead investigators to believe another person was involved and a second ‘person of interest’ was taken into custody later Friday morning,” WSFA-TV reports.

It didn’t take long for police to hunt down 32-year-old James Bryan Vance and charge him with first degree robbery in connection to the incident. He was being held on $15,000 bond on Friday.

The case will be presented to a grand jury following an investigation, however, police do not expect the female homeowner to face any charges.

I ran across a story about something similar happening in Mississippi a few days ago. Homeowner defending his/her home, shoots intruder, no charges expected to be filed. I'll see if I can track it down.

Police found Christopher A. Thomas, 27, of Marshall-Shadeland lying face down about 2:20 a.m. on the front steps of the Merritt Avenue apartment building with an abdominal bullet wound, said Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler. A handgun was lying nearby.

Thomas was in critical condition at UPMC Mercy, Uptown.

He is charged with aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, conspiracy and carrying a firearm without a license — all felonies, court records show. He was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Pittsburgh police related to a rape that happened in April.

Police found the body of David Calhoun, 31, of Carrick inside the apartment.

The apartment resident, whom authorities did not identify, told police that one of the men shot into the door of his first-floor apartment, and they pushed inside, Toler said. They shoved a 19-year-old man, who lives there with his 17-year-old girlfriend, into a bedroom and asked for “his stuff,” she said.

The tenant pulled out a shotgun and fired three times, hitting both men, Toler said.

A virtuous woman turns murderous
Francisco "Chico" Forster is shot to death on downtown Los Angeles street by his jilted lover, eighteen-year old Lastania Abarta. The forty-year old Forster was the son of wealthy Los Angeles land developer and considered one of the city's most eligible bachelors despite his reputation for womanizing and poorly treating women.
...
Apparently, the couple made love after Forster promised to marry Abarta. But when Forster disappeared and didn't return with a ring or priest to perform the ceremony, Abarta and her sister Hortensia started to comb the city in search of him. They finally found him at a race track gambling and dragged him to their carriage for a trip to the church.

But Forster got out of the cab on the way, the women closely following behind until Abarta suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him through the eye.
...
The jury, all men of course, took just twenty minutes to acquit Abarta, who left town and disappeared out of sight.

Should ‘Self-Defense’ Apply to McDonald’s Cashier Who Beat, Crushed Customer’s Skull With Metal Rod? 10.18.11
A woman in the Greenwich Village area of New York City was visiting her local McDonald’s when she became upset regarding her order and verbally lashed out at the man behind the counter. But she soon got violent, and things escalated when she slapped the cashier. That’s when all hell broke loose.
...
The women then jumped the counter as the man scurried to the back of the restaurant. He quickly appeared with a metal rod and begins beating the woman and her friend, who joins in the melee. The man can be seen continually swinging the rod as people plead with him to stop. He doesn’t. And the effects are devastating.
...
The woman who was targeted has severe injuries, including a partially-crushed skull. “She’s not out of the danger zone. She’s had some sever injuries. Her right arm is broken. The left side of her head was caved in pretty good.”
...
Mcintosh has been charged with first and second degree assault. The two woman, including Darbeau, were charged with menacing, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
Video at the link. Might be too graphic for some.
