Ah, but that's because The Lard, or whatever, gave us free will. Therefore turtles.

I have always thought faith should be a sub category of motivated thinking but it is so prevalent in humanity that it gets its own billing.
We should be MOST skeptical of ideas we like because we are sufficiently skeptical of ideas that we don't like. Penn Jillette.

There is also the possibility that the Bible may not be entirely correct.Svartalf wrote: Actually, Gd is anything BUT omniscient...
He haggled with Abraham about the number of just people to be found in sodom rather than just crushing himm with the figure of one,
he named Saul king of the jews and later regretted doing this
So it doesn't know everything.

Either the Bible is Entirely correct (it's supposed to be "Inspired" , you know)
or chretinity is even more of a bunch of bullshit than the bible shows it to be.

I think when they say the Bible is "inspired" they mean "inspired by true events." Kind of like Braveheart, 300 or The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

If it is trash, then arguing from its content will most likely lead to wrong conclusions.Svartalf wrote:How about the trash about "true, inerrant word of dog" that born agains and the like keep spouting?Animavore wrote:I think when they say the Bible is "inspired" they mean "inspired by true events." The problem with literalists is that they deny the works of God by claiming that all they see in the World around them can't be true. They make a liar out of God by implicitly implying that God created the World in such a way that He tricks us into believing things which are contrary to a literalist take on the Bible.Svartalf wrote:How about the trash about "true, inerrant word of dog" that born agains and the like keep spouting?Animavore wrote:I think when they say the Bible is "inspired" they mean "inspired by true events." It's also a form of idolatry. Or bibliolatry. They worshop a book. Not God and His works.
Another interesting thing about 'Born Agains' is if we look at the conversation that Jesus had with Nicodemus from which Born Agains derive their name.
The reason Nicodemus makes this mistake is because in Greek there is a play on words. The Greek word anothen means 'from above' and 'born again' and it is this first usage that Jesus uses. Nicodemus mistakes it for the second meaning.Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
The problem is if this conversation happened it would've happened in Aramaic or even Hebrew where such a mistake is impossible. Ergo this coversation could never have happened. Conversely, Born Again Christianity is based on a lie
