Did you follow nineberry's advice? Sort the list of torrents by number of seeders and choose one with LOADS - the more people offering it, the faster you get it. Also, check the settings of your torrent client, you may be limiting the bandwidth. For a full season of a popular show, I would normally expect a few hours to be plenty - sometimes much less. My computer is about that old, and it runs XP too. VLC works well on it. While not all of the files I've downloaded are "as advertised", most of them are. You may need to look for a version of VLC that runs specifically on XP (although I would have thought it would detect your OS when you downloaded it). You could also try googling "Software to download torrents on XP" and see what comes up - you should find a lot of links to chatrooms where people talk about this shit.
I run a Mac, so I can't really advise you much more than that. Google is your friend though.
