That There World Cup of Winning Football.

Fabio Capello is a tactical genius ... not! He seems to be able to get the worst out of potentially good squads. First England, now Russia. Two world cups, 7 games, 1 win. The Russians are stuck with him until 2018, unless they want to buy him out. Or whatever the equivalent is in Russia.

Algeria v. Germany. It's 1982 all over again. :{D

He had the biggest pile of poo anyone has had to work with for England, took Heskey and Crouch last time! But somehow has the best strike rate of any of the post war engerland managers.

For the money England were paying him, he should have made Rooney play like Pele, Maradona and Puskas all together.

Meanwhile, back to Luis Suarez. There's a rumour going round that the Uruguayans won't turn up for their knock-out match against Colombia. I suspect that some of them really are stupid enough to contemplate doing that*. They just seem to have a completely blinkered "us and them" attitude.

*FIFA would very likely ban them from the next World Cup at the very least. :tea:

I woke up at 5 a.m. to watch Korea get sent home by a 10-man squad. :ddpan:

Not all that shabby. Korea finished up the better team than six others. Not too bad, considering there are only 32 contenders.

Germany versus Portugal. The first 20 seconds: Kickoff. A couple of passes until the ball finishes up with a German defender on the right. He passes the ball to the defender on the left. Left defender looks around, then passes the ball to the defender on the right. Defender on the right passes the ball back to defender on the left, who, you guessed it, passes the ball back to the defender on the right. Then comes the surprise move. Defender on the right does not pass the ball back to the defender on the left! He passes the ball to the defender in the centre! He in turn passes the ball to his goalkeeper. This game is going to be excitement plus.

Having said that, the Germans are giving Portugal a hammering, but that's because they decided to actually go forward. 3 - nil at half time. I can't see Portugal winning from here, particularly since they are down one man for the rest of the match.

Oops. Can't remember watching this game before. SBS is obviously rebroadcasting it.

Guess I'll STFU now.

OK, time to distract you people from my embarrassing moment, so here are some comedic soccer comments. Enjoy, if you can.

Ann Coulter: “No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer."

I'm surprised she can string together a sentence of that length.

Anyway, a person has four great-grandfathers, and I'd say the number of Americans with all four (plus all four great-grandmas) born in the USA is relatively small.
