Best Zombie Arm?

Post by piscator » Wed Mar 12, 2014 7:14 pm

I'm thinking a wet-suppressed MP5SD could be about the best all-around offensive Z-gun ever devised. Light, durable/reliable when maintained, Over The Beach waterproof, goes 'pewpewpew' real quiet (even on the first shot), and you can pack a shitton of 9mm mags. A veteran ass kicker, the MP5 settled the Iranian Embassy thing for Maggie's Boys in 1980, and they still use it today for the same sort of work.

What's more, the H&K 416 with the 10 or 14" barrel and suitable holo/laser sight package might be one of the best choices for a 'defensive' or "Indian Square" posture, as blowback doesn't foul the action and mean rounds between stoppages are increased over most other 5.56 platforms. Barrel changes are also a snap on both these German/Brit weapon systems, which are favorites of special forces worldwide for their reliability over hundreds and thousands of rounds/week. Osama bin Laden was capped with an H&K 416.

Sidearm: Sig P226 Navy (MK25) and tritium, uber-reliable, holds lots of rounds, works well with mechanic's gloves. One less thing, right?

If you have to endure a Zombie Apocalypse, try to do it with some class. HK and Sig are hard to beat.

I thought pump action shotguns were highly regarded, particularly for the tougher zombie strains...

Noise, and weight of the ammo work against you in the long run. I suppose availability of ammo is a plus for the scattergun, but the limited range vs even a subsonic 9mm would have to weaken the comparison.
Sure, there's slugs, but only a small fraction of shotguns shoot slugs well enough to take advantage of the ballistics and energy. Slugs also don't grow on trees, and will be hard to find or make and reload well a year or two into WWZ. There are billions of 9mm NATO rounds laying around in storage - enough to carve out the space to resume manufacturing more.

Molten candle wax + birdshot. Scoop the mixture back into the cartridge and it becomes a devastating slug (once it's allowed to cool, of course).
Edit:-

But yeah...
...I suppose something like this would be one of my first weapon of choice:-

Sounds good, but what about melee weapons for close quarters work? I've a soft spot for machetes, but I could be converted to a kukri. A baseball bat with a couple of big nails through it might also work.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I like the MP-5SD, after all making noise draws more zombies. I'm also in favor of a nice katana for quiet wet-work. I'd prefer the .40 or .45 version of the HK though, 9mm is a bit anemic for my tastes these days.

As for the best zombie arm, I find it's the right arm, since most zombies are right-handed.

The only problem with that is range.
