The Winter Olympics

Post by mistermack » Thu Feb 06, 2014 4:09 pm

Full apologies to all who put time and money into the winter olympics.

But the fact remains, it's mostly boring, unless you have a special interest. These Sochi games are quoted as being the most expensive ever. Could that be true? Or is it just the most expensive WINTER games ever?

An awful lot of the events are decided by judging, on ''artistic'' qualities. That always turns me off.
And skating is on a par with cycling, for interest. Less actually.

Anybody love it?

I love the giant slalom and downhill skiing events. It's all downhill from there.

The IOC AND Putin's Russia in bed together? A large chunk of the worlds total corruption in one small space. Couldn't give tuppence about any of the events either. The only worthwhile sport in Russia is lancing a Cossack.

With the potential for someone to blow it up (if the terrorist don't blow it such a target then they might as well retire), anti homophobic demonstrations are likely to occur hopefully from the athletes.

Throw in the anti-Putin demonstrations , a Russian military known for its softly softly approach and this Olympics is likely to be anything but boring.

Then again if you are going there for the sport

Always thought the Oylmpics were just about which country had the best pharmacy but I might pay attention to the news afterwards because of added homophobia and Islamism.

I think the events suffer from a lack of imagination.

I'd like to see horsejumping on ice, and cross-country dog sledding. And boxing on ice.
And diving, into a FROZEN pool. We need some red-blooded sports.

Nope. The most expensive ever, about twice the cost of Beijing in 2008, and making London 2012 look positively cheap.

I won't be watching them myself, but each to their own.

Same here. The biathlon is a good event. The luge and skeleton are interesting from a madness perspective. The rest is boring.

Blow a few blunts and watch the curling, it's the perfect winter stoner game.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The only times I took an interest were the crooked judging when Torville and Dean were bumped down the medal list on their comeback, and Eddie ''The Eagle'' Edwards, who lit up the ski-jumping a few years ago.

Bring back Eddie !!

Yeah, I sometimes tune into the ski jumping to see horrendous stacks.
