What a dickhead.
Some automatic pistols are safe when 'cocked, locked, and loaded". Scary, but that very scariness actually makes them safer for the user in the long term because - if he's got any sense at all - he's a little scared of it too.

Minneapolis Man Pulls Concealed Carry Handgun, Halts Brutal Robbery
by AWR Hawkins 19 Dec 2013, 12:49 AM PDT post a comment
On December 17 a Northeast Minneapolis man pulled his legally-possessed concealed carry handgun and ended a robbery and bloody beating inside a corner market.
According to the Star Tribune, Matt Dosser was walking past a corner market around 9:30 p.m. when he came upon two suspects who had already "pistol-whipped" the market owner, "overturned" store contents, and were beating their fists against the store's front window in a rage.
At first Dosser only saw the two suspects hitting the front window and "nothing made sense." Then he saw the gun and everything clicked. He immediately drew his gun from his holster and held it "at the ready."
When the suspects saw Dosser's gun they fled. Inside the market Dosser found store owner Mohamed S. Ahmed with "the back of his skull split open pretty good" from the pistol-whipping.
Afterwards, Dosser praised the fact that Minneapolis laws recognize a citizen's right to be armed. "Police can't be everywhere," he said.

Gunman Bursts Into Dollar Store and Threatens to Kill Everyone – Before Police Could Even Respond, He Was Dead
Jan. 17, 2014 3:23pm Jason Howerton
An armed man entered a Orrville, Ala., Dollar General on Thursday, waved his gun in the air and threatened to kill everyone, AL.com reports. Though motive is unclear, he never got the chance to hurt anyone because a customer carrying a concealed handgun neutralized him with a deadly shot.
Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman Jr. told WSFA-TV that the gunman held a cashier and customer at gunpoint, forcing them toward a break room area. It was at this point that the customer reportedly drew his firearm and shot the suspect one time in the chest. The entire incident took less than five minutes, police say.
The gunman was pronounced dead on the scene.
The sheriff said the customer is not currently facing any charges over the shooting death, however, investigators are working to confirm he had a valid concealed carry permit. Open carry is legal in Alabama, but a permit is required to carry a concealed handgun.
There was also a sign posted outside the Dollar General prohibiting open carry, but not concealed carry, the report states.
“The deceased individual had his in his hand, waving it. The customer actually had one in a holster covered up. We’re in the process of checking on permits and all of that,” Huffman Jr. said.
“You have one individual waving a gun and you have another one who shoots the one waving the gun. Some people say that’s justifiable. Then you’re going to have some who says it’s not. I think we need to get all of the information we can get from everybody and then go forward from there,” the sheriff added.
No one, other than the gunman, was injured in the incident. The individuals involved were not immediately identified.

Damn, that's a tough one...having to shoot your 25 year old son to try to stop him from stabbing your wife to death and not being able to intervene soon enough to save either one.
Poor guy.

Poor guy.
Most people who imagine these scenarios imagine the attacker as a stranger, they don't think about their child being the attacker. I think it would create a dilemma regardless of what decisions one had made about what they'd do before the fact. Do you hesitate and lose the one, or shoot and lose the other? The son might have turned on the father next. Would it be easier to shoot him if he's after you? What if the son is not an adult but a child?

Its amazing how people just believe what they are told without question.
Who said we believe it? We are merely commenting on the evidence before us. If and when the police charge him, opinions will change. What I find amazing is your automatic assumption that "the cop" killed his wife and son when all the evidence present says he didn't.
Talk about your ingrained bias...

He Burst Into the Restaurant With a Gun and Tried to Rob the Place. Then Things Went Almost as Wrong as They Could for Him.
Jan. 31, 2014 8:58pm Jason Howerton
An armed man entered a Greenville, S.C., restaurant at around 10 p.m. Thursday night with hopes of leaving the place a much wealthier man. Strange how things don’t always go according to plan.
Instead, 22-year-old Calvin Jequan Benson left the Wings on the Run restaurant with two gunshot wounds and in need of medical attention.
Robbery Suspect Shot Twice by Armed Restaurant Employee
Greenville County deputies say Benson’s robbery attempt was thwarted after a store employee drew his own handgun and shot the suspect twice with a pair of accurate shots, WHNS-TV reports.
After realizing his hold-up attempt was officially over, the suspect ran out of the restaurant. Police later received a call from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office informing them that a gunshot victim showed up at the nearby hospital with two gunshot wounds.
Deputy Drew Pinciaro told WHNS-TV that they were able to identify Benson as the robbery suspect.
After being treated for the gunshot wounds, Benson was taken to the Greenville County Detention Center and charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Home Burglars Learn What Happens When Armed Neighbors Aim to Protect Their Own Street
Feb. 1, 2014 9:05pm Dave Urbanski
When residents of an Alabama town spotted three teens trying to break into a neighbors house in the middle of the day, they of course contacted police…but they didn’t just kick back and watch the action play out, either.
They armed themselves and confronted them.
With that, all three teens ran from the house on Mountain Laurel Drive in Pinson, but the neighbors chased them into nearby woods, according to AL.com. They managed to hold one, a 17-year-old, at gunpoint. Two others fled on foot but were captured more than a mile away on Highway 75.

The teen the neighbors detained was carrying a pistol, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian, and a set of keys belonging to the victim. It’s not clear from the AL.com report how the suspect got the keys.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were called in regard to the incident about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Pinson is about 20 minutes northeast of Birmingham.
The 17-year-old and another suspect, age 16, are charged with second-degree burglary and criminal mischief and placed into the custody of the Jefferson County Youth Detention Facility.
The adult, 19-year-old Contrell Dreonte Heard, is charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree marijuana possession. Authorities said he had marijuana on him when he was taken into custody. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $6,000 bond.
“This is a great example of neighbors looking out for each other,” Christian told AL.com, “because of that three criminals were caught. We love it when the good guys beat the bad guys.”

Bruno [dead guy] told Hubbard [the cop] he shouldn't have hit him, Hubbard said.
"He then somehow flipped me over onto my back and the subject began punching me on the left side of my face and head," Hubbard told detectives. "He was on top of me and I was in an extremely vulnerable position and I was exhausted from the struggle with the suspect.
"I don't know how many times he struck me, but I started to black out and saw lines across my eyes. He continued to strike me and I started to lose consciousness and I believed the suspect was not going to stop hitting me until he killed me.
"I feared for my life and I drew my weapon, fired two shots center mass."
A couple walking nearby included the nurse. They didn't see the start of the confrontation.
"But at the very end, the cop was underneath the civilian and had his head smashed very hard against the cement by the civilian," the nurse later told detectives. "I did not see any other circumstance than to shoot him. I mean he had to do something because he was gonna get a head bleed from the traumatic brain injury."
...
Hubbard was taken to a hospital as well. His injuries included a broken eye socket, a fractured cheekbone, a cut above his left eye that required two stitches and loss of feeling in the left side of his face.
