British Military "Unviable" According to some Yank

Post by Clinton Huxley » Thu Jan 16, 2014 9:22 am

According to this chap who, coincidentally, is in the county flogging his book, the current round of ongoing defence cuts will leave the UK incapable of acting as a full military partner of the USA.

Damn it, we're losing the power to serve as a US satrapy. The scandal! I can imagine the letters to the Telegraph.

They doubted whether the British pacific fleet could make a contribution in the war against alan in the final year, but the 4 carrier fleet did a damn good job, and, due to armoured decks, shrugged off Kamikaze attacks that sank Yank carriers...

From a US liaison officer on a Brit carrier:

"When a Kamikaze hits a US carrier it's six month's repair in Pearl. In a limey carrier, it's "Sweepers, man your brooms"!"

Given decreasing military budgets in Europe and increasing unit costs for equipment, no European country can or ever will be able to afford a "full spectrum capability". A combined EU military might be able to manage it, with countries specialising - France and Blighty providing the Navy, Germany the Army and Italy the catering.

Don't need a military - atom bombs are quite capable of the required effect in any military conflict. :coffee:

Tell me all about the Might British army, after you liberate London first :hehe:

Didnt this guy want to scrap the F35 meaning that we would have two multi-billion pound aircraft carriers with no aircraft and no ability to use any in existence?

Then again building an aircraft carrier around a foreign built aircraft is mental

I think developing a navalised version of the Typhoon or even just buying some Rafales would have made more economic sense. Not as cutting edge as an F35 (though the F35 apparently aint as good as it should be) but good enough to more than hold their own against any opposition they are likely to face.

Aye, its maybe a bit rich, given that, for example, US nuke missile men seem to be a load of drunks, potheads and cheats.

With no catapults its F35 virtual/short take off version or nothing. It doesn't really matter if the F35 is any good or not its all there is. That's the insane bit

A yank is complaining about UK budget cuts? One word: "sequestration".
