He's clearly not agreeing with you.
Reparse that, including the leading phrase "In the same way". The result should be an amalgam: "if you believe that the Koran is the word of god, that certainly makes you an extremist. (Mistersmackedoutofhishead) in the same way that if you believe that the Bible is the word of god, that certainly makes you an extremist."

How does that make any difference? By the general rules of sentence construction and comprehension you are saying that believing that the Bible is the word of God makes you an extremist. If you don't believe that then you should have clearly said that.

Let me spell my position out to you in longhand: Even mainstream Christianity, such as the Catholic Church, insists that the Bible (and not just the New Testament either) is the Word of God. Yet, Christians are not on the whole regarded as extremists since they dropped their crusades, witch hunts and whatnot. So, what is it that makes one lot of believers in some tome as the Word of God extremist, but not another?

The fact that they have weaselled out of accepting what their "good book" says because they are no longer allowed to kill and torture non-believers...

So it's not because they believe that their tome is The Word of God? Thought not.

If they truly believed, they would be doing a lot of very, very nasty things...

Luckily, in the main, we now have "Christianity-lite"

Many, but fewer, muslims accept 'Islam-lite"

Yes.

It comes around to cherrypicking. Now, whence terrorism?

I had a big argument with people on my facebook wall the other week about Islamic terrorism. I basically said that percentage wise, there are more extremists in Islam than there are in Christianity. I don't actually know if that is correct, but it seems about right. What's the deal. Am I right. Is there something inherently wrong with Islam, or is it a case of the socio-political scene in Islamic countries. I.e. it's a volatile mix between religion and politics?

I don't know much about the bible or the Koran, but it seems to me that the bible has the two testaments, so Christians can conveniently disavow the more crazy stuff. Does the Koran have that? Or is it still brimming with crazy shit like the old testament Bible?

To me, it comes down to the fact that they didn't have the equivalent of the enlightenment in the west, which pulled the teeth of christianity's tendency to want to be the boss of secular as well as spiritual matters...

The disavowal is still disingenuous crap, shown well by Hermit's collection of New Testament quotes, which show Jesus fully accepting all the old message. Christian apologists will weasel their way around this, but the more they do this, the more it shows that they are spinning a PC religion out of a goat-herders violent fantasy...

The Koran is overtly violent, misogynist and geared to be being a religion of conquest, fear and the sword.

End of fucking story.

Religion is nothing more than a nasty narrative of hominid tribal politics, extended to the universe at large, maintained because it can be employed by the powers that be as an opiate of the people. Fuck 'em all...

It's the reverse... the Koran is relatively tame compared to the hadith, sayings attributed to Muhammad but not part of the koran... you find the queerest mix of common sense and utter shite there.

What's to be done about all this? PC'ness regarding freedom of Islamists to do whatever they want (particularly to their women and apostates) seems to be at an all time high. And accusations of "racism" in place of anti-islam/religion seem to be at an all time high. How do we get the message across that all religion is bonkers, but Islam appears to be slightly more bonkers and dangerous than the other delusions?

I imagine that the real crazies would regard both as being the literal truth, and those who disbelieve deserve everything they get...
