We're not talking about "half a degree", Seth.
That's the Warmist mantra. In reality global temperatures have been much higher and much lower than anything experienced in recorded history, and yet life continues to flourish.
It's a shame you don't actually listen and learn in any of these discussions.
If there were anything worth learning, I would. Problem is it's mostly hyperbolic hysterical nonsense that's being foisted off on the lumpen proletariat by those in power who want more power and control who are using the useful idiots of climate science as their stalking horses.
\ We've been over this all before. Ecosystems can't just pick up and move.
Strange, given an earlier post in which someone claimed that fish have done exactly that. Oh, and then there's the birds, who are foraging farther north than before. It seems that the "ecosystem" isn't nearly as fragile as the useful idiots who pander to the IPCC so they can get funding so they won't perish would like us to believe it is.
Infrastructure can't just pick up and move.
Sucks to be infrastructure doesn't it? I guess we'll just have to build new infrastructure...or adapt the infrastructure we have now to the changing climate.
Even if we put aside the ecosystem cost, the cost to economies is going to be trillions of dollars.
So you say. Unfortunately the last now-17 years of no increase in global temperature doesn't really support your assertion. But let's suppose
arguendo that it does. From what I hear, according to the useful idiots of climate science the CO2 we've allegedly "pumped into the atmosphere" that's causing all the panic is already there, and it's going to be there for the next 150 to 200 years
no matter what we do. If we suddenly ceased producing CO2 worldwide tomorrow, according to the Warmist alarmists we will be facing whatever is going to happen for the next two centuries.
Therefore, it makes no sense to panic over it, because whatever it is will come, so we had best focus our attention
and our economic plans on
adapting to the coming change, if in fact any significant change is coming at all, which is anything but certain. But again
arguendo let us presume there are going to be significant environmental impacts from AGW like more severe hurricanes and tornados and a rising sea level. What do we need on a global basis to adapt to just one of those impacts; rising seal levels? It doesn't take whole continents of people being reduced to pre-industrial penury and economic ruin, it requires the most robust and growing world economy we can create in order to provide the necessary wealth and technology to deal with the impacts of an ultimate 20 meter rise in sea levels. It requires massive and reliable energy sources that can facilitate the industry needed to shift infrastructure 30 meters higher than it currently is or to protect infrastructure that will be 20 meters underwater...in 200 years.
And let's use the "climate change" rubric and predict the opposite, global cooling and ice-age style glaciation. That requires even more viable energy resources and infrastructure to allow populations to survive in a colder climate.
So, if what you say is true, then the critical need right now is not to shut down the extraction and exploitation of mineral energy resources like natural gas and coal, it's exactly the opposite. We should be mining every single coal field we can manage to mine and we should be stockpiling it in southern Texas in anticipation of glaciation conditions that render it impossible to mine coal or extract natural gas in the event of a glaciation period.
And if it's going the other way? Well, we're going to need that energy for air-conditioning and crop production because wind power and solar power ain't going to cut it, ever. All sources of renewable energy make up only two percent of our energy budget and it's never, ever going to provide enough power to keep a technological society, which is the ONLY hope for mankind to adapt to radical climate change in either direction, operating.
You want to be "green," then fucking go live in central Africa somewhere, where they don't have electrical power at all, and grub for food in the ground with a pointy stick. Then, and only then will I give your asinine complaints any serious consideration. But as long as you're typing your thoughts into a computer and transmitting them over a global digital network that was built by and is sustained by carbon-based energy production every one of you Warmist hypocrites have no standing to bitch about anything.
A staggering impost on economies just to "adapt" as you call it.
According to the Warmists, as I point out above, we're going to have to adapt like it or not, so let's get the fuck on with it and quit straining at gnats and ignoring the trees.
A far more sensible idea would be to transition economies to a more sustainable and greener energy base
Sorry, no such thing on offer, or on the horizon I'm afraid. You want a "green" lifestyle, I challenge you to turn off your computer, have your electrical service disconnected, throw away your cell phone and start living like the indigenous people did a thousand years ago. Have fun with that, but I'm not interested in that lifestyle.
and then lose no economic growth, and save all that trillions of dollars and human suffering and misery. But I understand that's all too complicated for you to understand. It's easier to just bleat idiotic slogans like "adapt or die" over and over again.

You're all talk and no action. You spout platitudes and engage in wishful thinking about things that don't exist and will never be able to support a technological society without any understanding at all of what the consequences of your Ludditism actually are or how many people will suffer and die in the short term if technology is interrupted for as little as one month.
The US government just admitted that gasoline and diesel powered motor vehicles will be with us as a necessity for at least the next 40 years, and they can't actually point to any viable replacement technology on the horizon. It's all hopeful speculation and unicorn farts. You have no plan, just dogmatic idealism and a closed mind that you seem to think will solve the problems we might face. Until you DO have a viable, and affordable plan, I suggest you, and all the other useful idiots of climate science, and all the politicians just shut the fuck up and let the rest of us get on with adapting to climate change, anthropogenically caused or otherwise, because that's what humanity...and every other living organism on earth does: we adapt or we die.
As it happens I'm fine with playing golf in my Bermuda shorts in Yellowknife in January if that's what's coming.
