Helping the child victims of war by investing in the firms that manufacture the weapons of war... Hmmm...
Surely there are "ethical" investment funds out there? Or, better put, less controversial ones?
The most telling thing is that CiN has now changed its accounting policy - not to prevent such things happening in future - but to prevent them being discovered! Oh dear. This is not going to end well for them, methinks...

The first rule of charity benefits is that they must sustain themselves, the charity they are attempting to benefit always seems secondary to that. It's always seemed to me like something patronising at parochial to be preached to about the worlds ills by multi-millionaires in an attempt at a credibility kick. (Not a dig at all the fine people in the entertainments who give lots of time and effort to funding and supporting charities without them being the centre of attention.)
Eventually it becomes a gravy train. The benefit money is then divvied up to a gang of usual culprits that have to rely on that cash to sustain themselves too. Operation costs go up, actual benefit money goes down. Still it's not going to stop as long as fill up an entire evenings schedule with stars pretty cheaply and makes everyone feel pretty good about themselves for a bit, but how long do you fling money at social problems rather than realise that's not actually solving the fundamental problems. Like, for example, how about not liberating children of disfavoured regimes from their limbs in the first place.

Disappointing, and the fact that they're not coming clean but further covering it up, even more so.
If you're holding tens of millions in investments then you can easily afford ethical management of the funds. The return might not be quite so big but as long as it's above inflation then you're not losing out - it's peoples donations, not for profit. The least they could do is make sure they're not actively making things worse.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
