Greek civil war, when not if

Post by Tyrannical » Sun Nov 10, 2013 10:36 pm

Interesting times ahead in Greece. I'm hearing that some polls that the media doesn't like to advertise has Golden Dawn in first place with 22% support, and that was before two Golden Dawn members were murdered. The US embassy is also rumored to have conducted a poll a few weeks ago that put GD nearly in first.
Looks to me that arresting the GD leaders has back fired.
Oh, and what was GD's response to the murders? A memorial food give away to needy Greeks.
Since arresting party leaders hasn't stopped their rise in popularity, totally outlawing Golden Dawn may be their next and last move. Civil War would follow soon after. The question is if the EU and US interfere.

Golden Dawn are ultra-nationalist, racist cunts. They managed to gain 21 seats (out of 300) on a platform of anti-immigration rhetoric and promptly lost 3 of those when the elections were rerun a month later. They have never polled better than 9% (other than in certain districts with a high immigrant population which formed only part of an electoral region.) They have no chance of getting elected and only won seats due to the PR system in Greece. In a FPTP system they would be nowhere.

That you identify with them is no surprise whatsoever.

I believe both those leaked polls were for Athens and not the whole of Greece.
But really, have you not seen any of those fear of the rising right wing articles lately?
I'm already planing to visit Greece after the civil war, assuming my friends come out on top of course.

When I hear of riots throughout Greece, I'll believe this prediction... except the islands won't ever riot, they are too dependent on tourism, nor will the areas too near Turkey, lest it reignite old wars at an importune time...

Golden Dawn isn't interested in riots, they seem to want to avoid them. The Greek government obviously wants to bait them into violence, but GD seems too smart to fall for an obvious trap. Most people probably expected revenge killings after the two GD members were murdered. Not a memorial food give away.
The current ruling party has no chance if elections are called, and there are rumors they may also try and outlaw the left wing SYRZIA party for left wing violence. If you recall that killed left wing rapper, his music involved murdering golden dawn supporters. So they could at least claim a legitimate reason. Of course I don't think that would go over very well.

They are a vocal, detestable minority. They have no power and will never have any. Perhaps you should visit Greece now and talk to actual Greeks - see what they think of the GD, instead of wanking yourself silly over an imagined "rise of the right" that simply is not happening.

I get my news straight from Greek golden dawn supporters from certain sympathetic sites. Though I'm sure the Greeks you'd associate with have different views.

I lived and worked out there for years. Met a lot of Greeks, with many political views, but only ever a handful of wankers that gave GD any credence. They are a loud, obnoxious minority, the same as neo-nazi parties everywhere. Sad, pathetic losers that sit together in dark rooms wanking over how they are going to rise up and throw all the immigrants that are stealing their jobs out of the country. When the true fact is that they don't have jobs cos they are stupid, lazy and too antisocial to hold one down.

Of course, that's not what their supporters will tell you. :tea:

I hope, at least, it is a civil war.

I'm thinking that it wasn't much of a coincidence that 20,000 Kalshnikov assault rifles were just 'intercepted' by the Greek coast guard.

When Nasser outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood, it wasn't followed by a civil war.

Sorry, corrected to Nasser. Mubarek never banned the Muslim Brotherhood, as far as I can tell.

Probably because he was a 'member in good standing' with them. 'The Muslim Brotherhood' runs Egypt. The continuing civil war is just proof of that. The 'Arab Spring' is a farce.

No. The Egyptian army runs Egypt. Presidents and parliaments are only there under their sufferance.
