I'd be interested to hear the Libertarian rebuttal, if it's forthcoming.

A state of constant, frenzied annoyance with the human race, as far as I can tell...

Libertarianism is bollocks fundamentally because it claims to put 'liberty' above all else.

Sorry food, healthcare, shelter, water, education all come above 'liberty', liberty is a nice to have luxury item nothing more

Actually people are fleeing from North Korea to China and claiming asylum where they arent going to get much more liberty but are a lot more likely not to starve to death

Liberty is nice to have, but not as nice as bread

As I have said many times, the key is balance. Pure left wing policies are economic disaster (just ask the USSR), and pure right wing policies are disaster (just ask Attila's subjects). However, both routes have features worth considering. The nation that is smart will steer a course between those extremes, and will profit thereby.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

I have no problem with increasing people's choices but never at the cost of the more basics in life, which can be seen in

To MrJonno

I am certainly not opposed to supplying people's basic needs. I am a supporter of rational and limited socialism. Not the full blown socialism of the USSR, which was a disaster, but that we see in modern day western Europe.

Total libertarianism would be a disaster. Total socialism would be a disaster. But a path between the two will supply people's needs, while maintaining the liberty needed to encourage productive enterprize.

Libertarianism is an extreme ideology that raises 'liberty' above everything else, sensible politics is about balance. You start losing choices from before you were born (no one chooses too do so) due to having to live in a civilized society but also gain many

That is an extreme view which I treat with the contempt it deserves.
You are describing extreme Libertarianism. Not every libertarian is a Seth, just as not every Socialist is a Stalin.
You appear to be suffering from a combination of Confirmation Bias and Ingroup/Outgroup Bias.
Life and liberty - Nothing else is sacred.
How can I expect others to respect my rights & freedom if I don't respect theirs?
(Social libertarian, before you start vomiting economics at me.)
