A grandfather laid a £50 bet with bookmaker William Hill when his grandson was 18 months old that he would one day play for Wales. The grandson, Harry Wilson, came on as a substitute in the 87th minute against Belgium, the youngest player ever to play for Wales and possibly the most lucrative! His granddad had already told his employer that he wouldn't be coming back to work if the lad played!
What a lovely story.

I'll bet the bookie didn't see that coming.

Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

I'm surprised that they have under 18s playing professional sports. College sports not big over there?
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Not big at all. Tiny and unimportant.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

College sports are big in the US, almost all the pro basketball, American football, and hockey players come from college teams. Baseball on the other hand has extensive minor and farm leagues and isn't big in college.

I meant that college sport is tiny, in numbers of spectators watching, and in money.

We let thick people play sport in this country. The idea of Wayne Rooney at university is pretty fucking comical! But he gets a lot of goals. So who gives a shit if he's thick. THe US system where elite young sportsmen have to cheat in their exams to pretend they are clever enough for college is a bit daft TBH.

Cheating? Perish the thought.
It's the colleges business to "manage" the academic affairs of their top sporting students so that they hang around for a few years. You don't want to fail someone who is helping to bring a truckload of dollars into the university coffers.
