Pondering watching Prometheus on Blu-ray.

But I'll probably settle for something like The Man From Nowhere or Audition.

After watching Prometheus last night, I decided to go back and rewatch Ridley Scott's Alien. It's hard to believe it's been over 30 years. In spite of some of the dated computer graphics, the original still holds up.

It's a much more nuanced picture. I don't think I've watched it from start to finish before. I've watched Cameron's Aliens many times (I used to watch it to destress and calm me down), but that's a lot blunter in its approach.

Annoyed with streaming. Netflix throttles down to about 1 mbit somewhere between my ISP and their servers, so I'm getting SD or less than SD quality from them. That's fine for documentaries, but not for feature films. On top of that, Netflix only offers the more popular movies on disc. I tried Amazon streaming tonight, and for most of the movie it was fine, tapping 2-3 mbit of a total burst of 6 mbit (4.28 mbit on speedtest). It was advertised as HD quality, and while it was streaming in HD, the picture quality was obviously only DVD quality. Then in the last five minutes of the movie, somewhere along the way, the bandwidth dropped to 0.5 mbit, resulting in several pauses for buffering in the final 5 minutes. I think I'll try Amazon Prime though, and see how it performs on average. I suspect the selection will be better, too. (Ghostbusters, the Resident Evil series, and Alien itself are all DVD only titles from Netflix, which is bullshit. The only question is whether quality titles are a part of Amazon Prime's no-cost library, or not, and if not, how much not; I could handle popping $3 for a quality rental now and again, but it would eliminate some of the supposed advantage of Amazon Prime. Poking around in my player, it lists which movies are available for free with Prime. Oddly enough, the Resident Evil series is not free, with the exception of one title that is listed as not being in HD. I'll need to explore more.)

I found a biologist on Youtube who does a series of videos debunking creationists. He's a bit long winded at times, and needlessly foul-mouthed, but he goes into greater detail in debunking many of the creationist claims than I'm used to seeing. (Which explains the long windedness.) Seeing creationists being skewered usually cheers me up, even when I'm depressed, but I'm learning quite a lot from his explanations, as well. Much fun.

More CSI NY. I'm going to be sad when I finish this series! I'll have to find something new on Netflix. :(

If you took Boardwalk Empire and gave it a quicker pace, injected some humour into it and made it British/Irish it would probably look like this.

Star Trek Into Darkness. My God what a lame-ass piece of shit.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Season 4 of the Fringe. Loving it's nonsense and endearing characters. Breaking Bad's next, because how can I not?
