I think he was trying to show how readily available high speed internet is under wonderful American laissez faire capitalism vs the shoddy services available to those oppressed by the oppressive Kafkaesque socialist bureaucracies in Au/NZ.
But he confused 3g/4g wireless cell coverage with hardwired broadband internet connections comparable to the sat link you are waiting for when he cherry picked his dramatic graphic, thus mitigating his entire point.

See, when the profit motive predominates, services like cabled internet with high infrastructure costs paretoize the low hanging fruit. The US saw it with private electric companies - less than 20% of US farms had electric service at a time when 90% of Europe was electrified because there wasn't enough profit in it to run wire out in the American countryside, even at 4-5x the price/kilowatt. Then New Deal Socialists like LBJ rammed the Rural Electrification Administration down the nation's throat and brought about not only electricity to US farm country, but a semblance of price equalization to the rural consumer.
Something similar also happened with rural water and sewer systems, which had the effect of drastically lowering US cholera, dysentery, and cryptospirosis rates, as well as pardoning millions of early 20th century American women from a life sentence of drudgery over a boiling pot and washboard. Most Americans are served by Socialized water and sewer systems to this day.
