That doesn't mean that a person who would rape a one year old infant doesn't merit a special sort of disgust.... there is something about a person who would do things to a one year old child. Something that triggers my gag reflex. Perhaps it's the ability to "understand" straight out killing in some sense -- there can be rationales for it -- money, power, politics, etc. The rape of an infant, though, seems so downright horrid. So reprehensible. So devoid of any sense or purpose. So contrary to human nature -- I mean, most folks when they see an infant see something to protect, something cute, something without any sort of sexual component, and something that one would not wish to harm in any way. So, when a person not only harms an infant, but also so callously and disgustingly uses the infant for sick sexual gratification... well, in my view, they deserve a special circle of hell, metaphorically speaking.

In a purely academic sense, yes.

However, from the perspective of the victim, there are clearly things that happen in life that can effect them in a way that is worse than death. The evidence of that is that sometimes a rape or abuse victim will commit suicide, which means that to them they preferred to die rather than to live with the effects of issue.

And, if a person did that to my daughter, I would certainly kill them if I had the chance, and I would want to do so whether I died or got the death penalty, because some things, to me, are worse than death.

Yes, obviously such a small child has no means of defending themselves. So, yeah it is horrid.

Especially, how does a woman "rape" an infant?

She has no dick to stick anywhere. Even if she did, it wouldn't fit anywhere. I also doubt an infant gets hard or has any size that she could somehow stick in herself.

So, I think saying "rape" is inaccurate. It's more like groping, or fondling, or whatever, not "rape." But, obviously that shouldn't be happening either.

Nor was my OP a claim to virtue or superiority. The OP was an opening of a discussion about a particular news story. It is no more a claim to virtue or superiority than any other report of an outrageous occurrence. You may wish to ask yourself why you don't make this sort of comment about other threads, such as where people post news stories of gun crimes and pontificate on the immorality of lax gun laws or allegedly lax gun laws. Are those folks merely attempting to claim a superior virtue?

I do not claim a righteousness here. I was shocked by the event, because I have never heard of such a thing occurring before. However, I have since learned that such crimes do occur from time to time, and that really surprised me. I googled and found a news report of another event where a guy was caught having raped an infant, and the infant had to have surgery and suffered sever pain and trauma as a result. It makes me want to vomit.

Yes, I think that is what should be the normal reaction, as opposed to a ho-hum blase' dissertation about how those that do react viscerally to such crimes are going on about it with righteous indignation trying to claim moral superiority where none exists.

I don't believe that in any real sense morality "exists" as a thing. It's just a matter of opinion, so people are free to suggest that one thing or another is worse or better, relatively speaking. It's all opinion. However, given that we have a forum section about News, Current Events and Politics, and this event is current and newsworthy, it is certainly not inappropriate for discussion here.

No one who commits suicide are in their right mind. Committing suicide is not rational, having been raped or not.

All fair points, but rape also includes using fingers and implements. The article did not specify how it was done. However, I found, as noted above, one incident where it was done by a man in the conventional sense. That guy may well be even worse than my hyperbolically noted worst human ever.
