I think some of you are not really getting the point. RE in schools in the UK is taught in a comparative way. While schools are obliged to force Christianity on pupils 51% of the time, this doesn't apply in RE lessons, though they do learn more about Christianity than other religions because it's felt to be more socially applicable.

I prefer to say it's taught hagiographically, it seems more accurate.

My youngest had some RE homework last me where she needed to ask people three questions: Are you an atheist, theist or agnostic?
What religion (if any) are you?
What are your opinions about God?

My responses were:
Atheist
No
Any god is a mental construct created to assuage fear (particulary of death and non existence), to engender a sense of belonging and give the believer a sense of purpose and meaning. (Words similar to that).
I wanted to give a more in depth answer but she only had a couple of lines.
My daughter's RE teacher is also her history teacher and guess what? In history she's learning about St Boniface *eyeroll*.
Well, at least my daughter learned that with all St Boniface's faith and fervour, him trying to prevent his own death by holding a bible to his head failed miserably. Epic Fail.
