A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

Don't worry, soon homeopathy will be part of chemistry class and Astrology part of Physics. Harry Potter and Game of Thrones will probably be part of History and Sociology will be the study of the wrong-doings of celebrity.

Re: English schools failing in RE.
I'm tempted to ask what metrics were applied in order to determine how one purportedly "fails" in RE.
If one takes the comparative mythological approach, then I can understand how one can fail, with respect to applying apposite analyses and comparisons. But if one is simply treating the assertions of a given mythology as fact, without bothering to ask awkward questions such as "does reality agree with this?", then it's a bit difficult to see how "failure" can be determined, given that the process of treating assertions uncritically as fact is as far removed from every other academic discipline as it's possible to get.

One has to make sure one's inconsistent answers are consistent with theological inconsistencies.

Re: English schools failing in RE.
So basically, "failure" is defined as "not making up the right shit"!?
EDIT: I initially moved to correct the "!?" above, but realised that if one treats that symbol combination as an interrobang, it actually makes sense.

Indeed... but RE classes are generally based on the premise that you are to be educated in your religion or converted to the dominant creed... not good for fostering critical thought and rational attitudes.JimC wrote:I think the study of religion is vital.

Like Audley has hinted, "Failure" in this case can probably be read as, "Failure to properly regurgitate a common basis of religious metaphor required for further studies of historic literature."
