Link?

I saw a news story about a bunch of WWII vets, mostly in wheelchairs, refusing to stay out of the WWII Memorial despite it being roped off for the shutdown. They were there to visit the memorial and didn't give a whit about the shutdown, so they went in anyway.

More Daily Caller spin ... why blame just Obama for state facilities being shut down right now?

Bad source. Every monument and museum in DC is closed at the moment. People can be angry at whichever party or branch of government they like.

The WWII veterans' memorial, which is an open air site that is normally not manned, was closed off by the park service as part of the government "shutdown" on the orders of Obama's OMB. A bunch of WWII veterans showed up and some congressmen, including Bachmann and McCaskill, also showed up and removed the barricades so that the WWII vets could tour the memorial. For more, read all the updates here:

http://therightscoop.com/obama-administ ... erans-out/

Or for a left wing version, here:

The bottom line is that Obama is looking like an idiot for using the "shutdown" as an excuse to put extra personnel at the memorial sites to "guard" them against enemy invaders tourists.

Because if he was actually trying to avoid spending the unauthorized money, he wouldn't be sending extra guards to prevent people from entering the memorials. The idea that preventing the public from seeing the memorials is an essential function of the federal government is asinine.

The guards and barricades were a politically motivated stunt on Obama's part that backfired.

Conspiracy theories really shouldn't be given any credit. The guards aren't some extra expense to buy a stunt; they're among the few excepted personnel not sent home from the shutdown, unlike all the workers at those museums (and the WWII Memorial also has somebody there under normal conditions). Every national park from Acadia to Yosemite is shut down too - all part of a politically motivated stunt?

I still say they should keep the shutdown going through the end of the year and see what happens. See if they can make do by consolidating job tasks and innovating. I bet there'd be some rough patches, but if we can't shave 20% of the federal workforce, I'd be shocked....

WW2 ??
Bunch of pathetic wankers. So they were in a fuckin war. So what? It only lasted just over three years for the US.
And that ended nearly seventy years ago. For fuck's sake, get over it and get a life.

Tossers.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

These are the same big banks that got billions in bailouts from the government. No wonder they want to continue the current spending policies. If anything, that's an argument in favor of continuing the government slimdown.

This shutdown is not a "slimdown". The assumption on both sides of the aisle is that most Federal employees will eventually be paid for this furlough.

As of now, it's merely annoying me that NGS OPUS is down. I can work around it.
But I do have colleagues that will have to put crews down when they run out of non-Federal work for them. One of them has had to demob 3 crews working at Eilson and Ft Rich. That's 9 breadwinners out of work.
That company is also going to charge the government for the extra expenses involved in bringing those crews back early. And more likely than not, they'll crank back up again in the dead of winter and lose the efficiencies of working when there's not 3' of snow on the ground.
Or they may have to just wait until spring to start back to work. In the meantime, they'll collect unemployment.

This shutdown isn't going to save the taxpayers any money at all.
