Haven't watched today's races yet, but Oracle keeps winning - do they actually have a chance?

Oracle won again today, though Emirates New Zealand stayed within a few seconds for the entire course. Exciting racing to watch even when you already know the result!

Seven wins in a row for Oracle, tying the series up eight points to eight. Now we know for sure the next race is the final race.

Nearly sure. There's just a chance in a million that someone gets disqualified for some new infringement.
It would have to be some serious cheating, but it's happened before. Highly unlikely, though, give the scrutiny that they must have been through.
My money would be on the US. That's not very brave though, they must be a heavy favourite now.
I wish I'd had the nerve to back them, when they were right down there, needing eight wins in a row.
But that's hindsight for you. It works every time.

Yeah - must have driven the bookies nuts.

In one respect keeping in San Francisco and under Oracle means interesting times in boat design and local broadcast times instead of Antipodes. As one guy said this is the birth of a whole new sport....those were insane and exciting races.

When Oracle nosedived I thought they might topple a mast but they recovered incredibly well.

I do not think these boats would fare well in the more open ocean conditions of earlier contests.

The schooner MADELEINE approaches the SANDY HOOK LIGHTSHIP, outer mark of the second race of the 1876 defense of the America's Cup. Not far behind, and well ahead of the Canadian challenger COUNTESS OF DUFFERIN. is the 25-year-old AMERICA, winner of the original 1851 contest. Crew were stationed aboard the lightship for months on end; surely this day would have been a welcome break from the routine. This original painting will be included in the "Sporting Life" Exhibition at the Lyme Art Association through September 21.

Not aware they had the option to leave the mark boat to port, 1871 America’s Cup challenger LIVONIA jibes around in a gale and pays dearly for it. Defender COLUMBIA, simply tacking around, gains the advantage. Here LIVONIA’s crew struggle to sheet in her wildly luffing sails as green water breaks over her quarter. LIVONIA’s owner James Ashbury, seen far aft, is livid; his protest will be dismissed by the NYYC.

They need to be 3 masted square-riggers, with cannon, allowed to fire at the opposition boat...

Now that's what you call a varied career.

Sandy Hook. A sandy breakwater spit of land, a lightship, and then a school massacre.

How it's fortunes have dived.

On the BBC News, you would think the cup was won single-handed by Ben Ainsley.
It's pathetic how they big-up anything with the most tenuous like to Britain. Can't they just appreciate a spectacular effort by an American team, with sailors sourced from around the world?

It's debatable how much effect Ainsley's input had anyway. It looks to me like they found a way to make the boat go faster. That's always the best tactic.
