Do Women Deserve The Vote?

Post by cronus » Sat Sep 21, 2013 7:55 am

I've read that women are far more reactionary right wing voters than men, much more easily swayed by a strongman's presence despite his policies. How they got like this? Evolution? :read:

I wonder if there are any good neutral sources detailing the debate on women's suffrage.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Women got the vote in Germany in 1918. Hitler would have got nowhere without their support at the ballot box.

Women formed the majority of the electorate in Germany after WW1 so the acid test is been done with regards gender indifference to fascism. Whilst women are more likely to vote for health and education in stable times given uncertainty they cluster around the guy with funny tash, who'll promise law and order and a loaf on every plate. The lower orders are going to vote for the loaf - and make sure they get someone willing to get them it. Useful idiots are always useful if you value a loaf of bread.

Of course, they do. After all they fought and died in their thousands in Crimea and Calcutta, on the fields of Flanders and the Somme, drowned in the muds of the trenches and died squealing on barbed wire and gasping through ulcerated lungs in mustard gas. The peasants were finally given the vote for their participation in that butchers travesty by a grateful nation. Women can be peasants too.

Winston Churchill was not trying to run a hyper-complex society on the verge of becoming a space faring civilization. He was right for his times. We need a true technocratic elite now who can push through hard decisions like nuclear reactors and moving people out of climatic change danger spots decades or more before they become apparent to the average voter. Democracy only works with a informed electorate and as issues become more complex it becomes less likely those with a IQ below a hundred and twenty five will have the wit to resolve what is for the best and what is suicide. Forms of democracy can exist within the elite but the average sheeple must bargh! and not be heard.

The question is a mendacious setup anyway.

The franchise isn't something within the gift of men alone anyway, and never should have been.

We are perilously close to that kind of government in Ireland, actually.

If it arises, that will be enough for me to begin revolutionary activity. I would actively fight to overturn any undemocratic government of my country. We've done it before, we'd do it again.

That's the Irish way though isn't it. A couple of decades of peace and then find some reason to start blowing things up. Like putting cool heads in charge of the show? Keep it off the mainland this time, eh? :coffee:
