Who's talking about "general mayhem?" You admit that it's needed occasionally, so if I accept that arguendo, your next condition makes no sense at all. The root problem of the "let the police handle it" fallacy is that the police are almost never in a position to act when an individual is sorely in need of the defensive benefits of firearms.

Yes, war is best left to the professionals, but then again sometimes it's the professionals who are the tyrants and the amateurs have no choice but to fight or die. And as it happens, amateurs can be pretty good at it themselves, particularly when well-armed and motivated.

Far out! :{D
Eels do the same thing. Baby eels travel along the tiniest water courses, that you wouldn't even know was there, but bigger ones go overland, and will travel miles on wet nights, and end up in isolated ponds and lakes that have no outflow at all.

Then, when they have grown to full size, up to a metre, they travel back over land, the way they came. All they need is a wet night, or even daytime through wet grass. They eat slugs and worms as they go along.
Yeah, I knew about European eels. They originate from the Sargaso sea and will trave up to 1000000 miles in a lifetime.
I just found it weird that a catfish would walk using it's fins.
Live and learn, eh? 8-)

Edit- Wiki states that they're critically endangered these days. :(

Edit edit - Spelling made me look retarded.

Again, I don't know where you get your figures from, but 0.3 gm sounds far too much.

Anyway, I don't really care who's caught the most fish, I just thought you'd find it amusing or interesting. But from a purely academic point of view, I would say that catching fish with huge machinery as part of a team, it's a bit of a questionable claim that you caught the fish.
Even moreso that you remember what you did in the 50s and 60s with a piece of cheesecloth.
I paid the team. I'm the skipper. If they disturb me while I hunt for fish, I tell them to shut up and make me a sandwich.

Whereas holding the net in your hands, and lifting them out of the water personally, is genuinely catching fish yourself.
Who caught them then? The law says I did. So do the checks. :tut:

Fine. 120 kg divided by 400,000 does equal 0.3g
Except that that 120kg obviously included the water that they came in. You certainly found the dumbest study on the net.

I've seen that argument before from the creationist fundies. If god didn't make the universe, who made it then?
Tha answer is the same for you. It doesn't have to be a who. It's a what. The fish were caught by huge fish-catching machinery. And you operated the machinery along with others.

You can stretch it to ''I caught those fish'' if you like. Few people would agree.
I never heard Alex Ferguson say '' I beat Manchester CIty two-nil ''.

Weak counter argument.

Piscator is right in this instance.

Says he, who can't even muster any argument at all, just a bare assertion.

I've seen '' sport fishermen '' go out in luxury boats, trailing about twenty lines. When a fish bites, a deck hand set's the hook, and then the '' fisherman '' puts down his martini, sit's in a chair while they strap him in, and then reels in the fish that he ''caught''.
But even those people have more claim to actually catching the fish than Piscator. At least they physically pull the fish in.

I think this argument about fish may be the most bizarre example of a heated exchange coming from trivial nonsense ever seen on Rationalia...

And that's saying something...

It is just that the last time I went fishing, I used a "fishing rod". I had thought, up to now, that I had actually caught that fish. Afterwards, I hit it on the head with a bar to kill it. Then I used my knife to fillet it.

Turns out that none of this was me. The job was done by an inanimate fishing rod, an iron bar, and a knife.

Who knew!

This is ground-breaking. Up to now, I've been under the delusion that it was me writing these words. It turns out it is my laptop, and a whole network of other computers writing my words.

Woooooooaaaaaahhh!

Mind blown.

That's because he gets paid not to. If he doesn't get paid, damned straight he'll say he caught it.
