I was referring to your driving though. But, I'm also still alive after Robert's driving. :?

Well, I caught a catfish on dry land the other day. Fucking walking catfish, a quarter mile from the nearest water. Just a little dude, maybe 14 inches long.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I've had a few million-pound seasons seining salmon in Prince William Sound. A few hundred+ ton herring sets.
Nowadays, I spend a couplethree weeks a year longlining my 40k pounds of halibut and 20k pounds of sablefish IFQ.

We evolved it. It's not surprising that it's there. Using weapons is what made us a successful species, so it's bound to have had an effect on the evolution of our brains. It's perfectly natural for a weapon to make you feel safer and stronger, and be an attractive thing to own.

It's just a question of how much, and whether people ever grow up and grow out of it.

We have inherited lots of instincts that were useful in the stone-age, which are now bad, and we need to repress.
You see it at football matches, we control the natural tribal aggression. Or the instinct to rape, we now suppress it.

This weapons instinct is in the same category. It's obsolete in a civilised society, but it's still there. There's no shame in experiencing it, but it's the morons who wallow in it, and define themselves by it.

Ian wrote:Maybe I should brag about what a good driver I am. I am WAY better than a nine year old in a go-kart, I'll tell you that! I drive a real car and I'm quite good at it. Maybe I couldn't win the Indy 500 even if I had the right vehicle, but I've had loads of practice and I'm more than proficient at driving.

See how silly it sounds to brag about that? And driving is at least a far more valuable skill than marksmanship, professional infantrymen excluded.
Depends on where the guy that's trying to kill you is standing. If he's standing in the middle of the highway perhaps you'd be right, otherwise, not so much.

Yeh, professionals, who volunteer for the job, and get paid through my taxes. Not pathetic inadequate loonies who need to hold a gun now and then to feel important.

You're a fuckin dreamer.
Dream on. Don't let reality spoil your fantasy world. Just try not to jump from there to the real world too quickly, or you'll end up with the full-time loonies.

I've probably caught more fish than him though. In a semi-commercial way.
I'm talking about these little guys. Now they sell them by the gram. When I was a kid, we used to catch them by the gallons.

Most professionals start out as loonies. Then DNA analysis shows they're professionals, so the authorities know it's OK for them to have firearms.
