I recall reading something a while ago where some loon was trying to encourage atheism to be more inclusive of black people (or POC, seriously we're back to that?) but their "things to lure credibility meat" were all so stereotypical of "black" affected by gang culture n drugs etc that it became obvious that while their intentions might have been good, they are fucking clueless.

When I did my undergraduate degree from 1992-1995 I studied English Literature and Classical Civilisation. At that time, the English Department was run and almost exclusively populated by people who self-identified as radical lesbian feminists. There was a core (obligatory) module on feminist reading, but in fact, there was no element of the course that was not shot through with the politics of the sexes.

Even then, the canard that "All men are rapists" and the extreme exhortations that we see from the Apelusters and their fellow travellers were all par for the course.

Somebody else (possibly Audley) said much the same as Cormac a while ago.

In my case it was in Ethics, Sociology and Psychology classes, such were part of my nursing training but my college was a separate entity to the University where these classes were held I found a marked difference between the attitude of "bloody students" and the majority of our own college, who were primarily young women of the same age. I guess when you actually have to work towards a degree you don't have much time or energy to put the world to rights between pints of snakebite.

What fucking adult attaches a label to themselves as it is beyond pathetic. Can anybody have their whole world experience and beliefs summed up in one or a few words. How simplistic must your world view be to be able to do that. Think how complex and complicated your interactions are with the world at large is. Think how nounce your inter species reactions are, your human relationships are going to be stellar, can you really pigeon hole them into a box. It is very sad that people limit themselves in such a way, curtailing your imagination rather than embracing it, looks like crabs in a bucket to me.

I should have been clearer when I said sexism removed her... it was part of it. It's complicated. Abbott (our opposition leader who personally attacked her for years) is without a shadow of a doubt a sexist, and he was sexist towards her. But his primary goal is to win government, not be sexist towards Gillard. The Murdoch press (which owns about 2/3rds of the newspaper market here) are openly in favour of the Coalition (the opposition), so they just ran with what techniques Abbott was using. The concern is how the public reacted to this. We've seen a disturbing undercurrent of racism in Australian society over the last decade or so, and many are concerned that there could be an undercurrent of sexism to match it.

Who classifies people as "adults'? How can you say that the complex combination of levels of emotional, cognitive and physical maturity can be summed up in a single word?

Who should label themselves "skeptic" for that matter? I've seen a lot of my fellow atheists repost some stuff on Facebook without doing the relevant fact checking and get Snoped. It's even happened to me once. Once!

Here's the question: Is the solidarityisforwhitewomen thing anti-feminist or is it a self critique of feminism?
