Just consider Detroit part of the prison system.
Oh hell yes! Let's go all "Escape from New York" on Detroit's ass.
I'd go with that, but only if you kept dropping your presidents into Troit shortly after they take the pledge.

What I find strange, is that prisoners in the US are not allowed guns.

Surely, if there is one place in America, where people need protection, it's in prison?

It's not surprising that there is so much violence in the prisons. Give every prisoner a gun, and as much ammunition as he wants.

It's the only sensible way to keep the peace.

More to the point prison guards aren't allowed guns
When only criminals carry guns the police know exactly who to shoot!

Oh yes they are. Every prison has an arsenal with lots and lots of guns. Guards who mix with inmates don't carry them for obvious reasons, but the ones in the towers and on the walkways damned sure do, and they have lots of guns stashed away in case they are needed.

But trying to conflate prisons and the public is an asinine thing to try to do in the first place.

Well, you see, prisoners FORFEIT their right to keep and bear arms by bad behavior, so they just have to suck it up and do without. There is a movement to change the law to allow non-violent felons to regain their gun rights after completing their sentences. There is actually a provision in federal law allowing people to petition the BATFE for restoration of rights, but Congress has blocked funds for its implementation for decades, so the BATFE cannot process the necessary paperwork. But there is always presidential pardon.

It's almost like if you let the 'good' guys get guns then the 'bad' guys will get hold of them and everyone will be worse off surely not

Well, no, not really. You see, in a prison there are many more bad guys than good guys, so the good guys keep the guns away from the bad guys...but they don't do it by banning the good guys from having guns, they just make sure that the good guys who have to mix with the bad guys are protected by other good guys with guns the bad guys can't get at.

Kind of like how I protect the unarmed and helpless of society by carrying a concealed handgun. I don't let the bad guys have access to my guns, and I don't get rid of my guns on the asinine premise that a bad guy might try to get ahold of one. I just make sure he doesn't.

Yes, because every single American is completely brainless. Fuck you and your ignorant generalizations.

I didn't actually mean that. There are lots of intelligent people in America. But they are generally treated with suspicion. And the the USA is fairly unique, in that the brainless can get elected president, or a judge, or a State Governor, or virtually anything.
It's the American Dream.

Better than the mindless proletarian zombies standing around gaping with vacant stares at the helpless having their heads chopped off in a public street.

I'd rather an average citizen have the power, rather than someone who could turn his "protection" into a dictatorship.
