Aliens. The James Cameron sequel. Meh. What a piece of shit film. The first one had a timeless quality. This one looks very dated. Bland, generic sets. No coherent art design. Cheap looking. Unconvincing models, poor special effects, awful sound (lightning that looked and sounded like it came from a 60s TV show, for instance). Terrible casting (fucking Paul Reiser?!). Terrible script. Characters saying and doing stupid things. Lousy, cringe-worthy dialogue (a Mexican illegal alien joke in a film set hundreds of years into the future?!). The actors looked like they were struggling to perform their shitty lines without looking like idiots. No sense of style or artistry overall. Looks like nothing more than a money-making operation designed to milk the first film's success.
Sigourney Weaver still gorgeous, however. And the whole dock loader exosuit battle sequence was cool, with the android getting bisected and all. Film as a whole ho-hum, however. Not scary, no suspense. Still, Sigouney Weaver. *shrugs*
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Alien3. This is more like it. Real drama suspense and horror, a solid cast of great actors, actual characters as opposed to caricatures, decent dialogue, great story, visually striking. Everything that was wrong about Aliens is right in Alien3. My only regret is that the original director, Vincent Ward, who also wrote the story, was not allowed to complete the project.
Of note: the director's cut includes quite a lot of detail left out the theatrical version, and really enhances the story.

Ani - you came up trumps with Ghost Dog. Now I'm looking for something similar but with more swords. Any ideas?

Try The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi.

Though for sword action I prefer Chinese movies like Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Hero, Iron Monkey, Legend [Jet Li] and House of Flying Daggers.

Zatoichi is a good one. Kind of a Sonjuro meets Blind Fury - great soundtrack as I remember. I'm not such a fan of the wire-fu films, I generally prefer something a little less magical and with a bit more actual cartilage stress, but of the others I haven't seen Iron Monkey, so that will be my next project.

Never seen a good wrestling movie - does one exist I wonder?

Have you seen Ong Bak? Some fantastic, wireless action in that.

I've seen the sequel, Ong Bak In Anger.

No, I haven't seen it. I'll add it to the list and let you know.

Alien Resurrection. Why this film has a bad reputation, I've no idea. It was loads of fun. Great script, very creative. And very funny! Dark but funny. Ripley totally kicks ass, and Sigourney is given a real chance to shine here. There's more of a character to her character this time. As for the others, a very memorable crew is assembled, with some very distinct and colorful characters. Ron Perlman is especially fucking awesome. Visually this film is gorgeous, and there were a number of very striking scenes. I think the first will always be my favorite but, of the other three, I like this one the best. It was the most enjoyable. If Vincent Ward had been allowed to direct the third one based on his unaltered story, the third one would likely have been my favorite. But he wasn't. So it's this one.
If I were to rank the Alien films in terms of my personal preference, then, from best to worst, it'd be:
Alien
Alien Resurrection
Alien3
Aliens
And I'm going to assume that Alien vs Predator is not even worth watching?

It's pretty much the comic book version of the Alien franchise.

I guess that's why I like it. It was a lot of fun. Joss Whedon wrote it, so the comicbook feel makes sense.
