In fact, the statement about bypassing third world nations is quite correct for a lot of those guys. A lot of the would-be refugees are from Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka etc. They get on boats for Ozzie in Indonesia. Take a look at a map and tell me again that they are not by-passing third world countries.

I assume you must be talking to Aza? They don't pass "safe" countries. They pass places that aren't signatories to the UN Convention on refugees, and places where they are likely to be locked up in jail or sent right back to where they came from.

And additionally, a lot of the Tamals come directly from Sri Lanka without passing go (Indonesia).

I have plenty of sympathy for them. That's not the issue.
I have more sympathy for the genuine applicants, who do it right, but are being gazumped by the illegals.
Every illegal denies a genuine migrant a place. The country can only tolerate so many.

I've also got sympathy for the lower-paid people in Australia, whose wages are being depressed by the availability of cheap illegal labour.

Like I said, I don't blame people for trying to get in illegally, it's quite adimirable in a way.
But I would still do my best to stop it, because it harms the country and the poor.

If the pressure of illegals was off, Australia could CHOOSE who they wanted to come and live there. Which is their right.
And they could choose people who would be a genuine asset to the country. i. e. Well educated and qualified people who speak English.

Refugees are not meant to be following a dream. They are supposed to be fleeing for their lives.
That's the problem.
There are billions of people who would like to move to a relatively rich country, if the brakes were removed.

I just believe that a country has the right to deter people from FALSLY seeking asylum. If that fucks up GENUINE asylum seekers, then that's a shame, but it's not the fault of the country, it's the fault of the BOGUS asylum seekers, and people like you, who encourage them.
Which the vast majority are. And the fact that they ignore poor countries, and home in on rich ones, is perfect proof of that.
