Egyptian gun laws are pretty restrictive. Apparently, they are still allowed to own pistols and shotguns though. Which is pretty sad for that part of the world, they should get to have AK-47s too.

I'm sure the various factions are well armed. They probably have a few RPG-7s scattered around. They're practically bound to - those things are everywhere in the part of the world. Sheep herders carry AK47s (some even have AK74s). Others carry old bolt-action British Enfields, and other more obscure old firearms from various nations. Guns are a part of life in that general area of the world.
