Some people really are getting their knickers in a twist about our potential independence, especially those who are not affected by it. I think this is where a great many Scots have it wrong. The average Brit does not see Scotland in any way as a possession or in any sort of colonial light. Far from it in fact. Most, including myself, see it as a unique partnership. Nobody I know considers England to have imperial control over Scotland. I genuinely think it will be a loss to both countries if you go your own way. As an aside I also think you will suffer economically, but that's another matter.

I've said it before : independence isn't about anti-British, or anti-English, or anti anything really. It's not about England at all.

It's just about Scotland, and making all decisions here rather than some, as currently.

Yeah when my dad ditched us, my mother was left without a penny. Due to some stupid bureaucracy and her own ignorance, she never received any money from the state nor from him. It was hard, I had to sacrifice my first university admission (until I hit 23) in order to get a job, but we survived. Took us both decades but now we are both well off and content.

As for your point about Scotland being a possession I was only being facetious, mostly. This unique partnership sounds as hollow as "the special relationship" with the States. A way of making a has been country feel like its still important on the world stage even though its lost everything (again I'n not accusing you of this, hence the description above), but many of us think it's time to split.

And like an ugly divorce, one partner is claiming "you'll never make it without me" and trying to find ways to be vindictive. Metaphorically of course.

Yup, and the only thing those nukes are ever going to do is either

a) rot, and have to be disposed of/buried somewhere the UK/US don't care about (probably Coulport, actually)
b) detonate in a massive fuck-up accident. As could happen at any time, as the nukes are regularly transported hundreds of miles across the UK by road between Coulport and somewhere in Berkshire.

Just realised if Scotland goes independent all the English can get free/cheap university education there as EU foreigners. That is seriously going to cause problems with the highest university fees in Europe next to a country with the cheapest
