Anyone want to place bets on when some scandal will hit MI6 or MI5?

I wouldn't want to bet anything. British intelligence has a reputation of being damn good at keeping things under wraps.

Maybe it's illegal for the NSA to spy on Merkins, but not illegal for GCHQ to spy on Merkins and then accidentally pass on all the data....

According to New Scientist journal, 29 June page 5, the Brits out-spy everyone!

They are tapping into subsea optic fibre cables that carry up to 99% of the world's international communications, and they are sucking data out in massive amounts. The tapping project is called Tempura, and has been under way for the last 18 months.

Read it and weep, American spies.

They must be just about cancelling each other out by now. Every country knows everything about every other country. I honestly laugh when country 'X' has a whinge the country 'Y' is spying on it. What a ridiculous world we live in.

France had a reputation for industrial spying, such as using them to sneak into hotel rooms and copy laptop HDDs of visiting industry people.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
