Why did this Justin Carter not just use some guns to defend himself from tyranny? He's not doing "being an American" properly.

Absolutely not.
What he had been a nutter preparing another Sandy Hook?

I think they had a duty of care to do at least a cursory check. Failing any obvious signs, apologise and move on...
Because of what someone says in a computer game? That's insane.

Well, if an initial investigation is insane, then the arrest and jailing are pure lunacy...

I agree, no need to do anything if the initial check showed no gun stashes etc.

Surely some civil liberties organisation is pursuing the matter.

Unless, of course, there is more to this story than has been released to the media, and there were other serious pointers towards him committing a crime other than simply what he posted...
Gun ownership means nothing. It was a fucking drenched in sarcasm joke. You've gotta be fucking shitting me.

Surely there are some signs that could be seen in those Americans who are going to go on one of your famous killing sprees. OK, so owning a mini-arsenal by itself isn't enough. Couple it with comments about going to a school to kill people, and police officers would be negligent if they didn't check it out. (not saying this is the case in the texan example...)

Actually, that's not true at all. Gun ownership means that you have at home the means to carry out a terrorist attack.

I take it back, this isn't as much of an overreaction as I thought. I'm not used to living in a country full of guns. It would be an overreaction here, but not in Texas. If everyone has the means for a mass killing at home, then you have to take "jokes" more seriously.
I hope this catches on.

Well, the jail certainly is, if there was nothing else other than the internet comments.

But, I guess we simply don't know...

If she's actually living in Canada, that's going to be rather difficult.

Anyway, it'ss the Texan authorities and their reaction that's the problem.
Bingo.

They have to stage elaborate set-ups to catch pedophiles, that take months and require cops to pretend to be little girls and such, so they can get mountains of evidence that the creeps are serious. This kid makes one stupid joke and he's in jail, facing 8 years in prison. That's the insane thing.

We don't open police investigations based on "what if?" That's flatly unconstitutional. The police have to have reasonable suspicion that the person is, has been or is about to be involved in the commission of a crime to begin investigating officially.

Problem is that the police are paranoid about school threats because they get it in the ass when some kid does shoot up a school because the police cannot adequately protect every school, so they overreact to lawful expressions of free speech to cover their asses.

I hope in this case the Texas police involved get their asses handed to them by a federal civil rights jury for arresting the kid for something that was quite obviously not a legitimate "terrorist threat." If they have to pay out a million or two in a civil suit for violating his rights, maybe next time they will be more careful about abusing their authority and the rights of citizens.

The real problem is the refusal of simpering liberal twats to do what's necessary to defend against the kids who shoot up schools who DON'T advertise it on the internet, which is to arm teachers and staff and make modifications to schools to slow entry and movement about the school by the shooter.

There is a world of difference between investigation and incarceration.
Of course there is. It's weird that they've kept him in prison but this is Texas. They love locking people up.
Then again, what we DON'T know is if they DID find some other corroborating evidence beyond his on-line statement. We only have the news report and his statements, but it is possible that the police found either more similar threats by the same person that appeared to be credible, or they found some evidence of preparation in his home and they just aren't telling us what they have. One must always consider that the police may have more by way of hard evidence than the press chooses or is able to report.

"Terrorist attacks" are carried out by organized person(s) to make some sort of statement, not a lone crazy person who goes on a rampage. So, theater/school shooting = not terrorist attack. 9/11 and Boston bombing = terrorist attack.

No, he's right, you have the "means," but without the motive or opportunity the "means" is irrelevant. Any homeowner who has a bag of fertilizer and a can of diesel fuel has the "means" to carry out a terrorist act as well...so does Jonno himself, who certainly owns objects that are capable of inflicting serious injury or death on someone else, from a cricket bat to a kitchen knife.

His idiocy is that he assumes that just because someone has the means to commit a terrorist act, this means that they automatically have both the motive and intent to do so.

That's why his arguments mirror those made by pinheads, idiots and mindless Marxist dupes.
