Happiness. Extremely well made film, but holy fuck that was bleak and depressing. And I like bleak and depressing. But that was maybe a little too bleak and depressing.
Water Lilies. Recommended by amazon because apparently they think I like lesbian teenage girl coming-of-age films. The film basically consisted of this one girl pouting, and pining for this other girl she fancied. When they finally kissed toward the end of the film, I have to admit I did get a boner. So perhaps I do like lesbian teenage girl coming-of-age films after all.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

The Todd Solondz film? It was extraordinarily well acted, and impeccably directed. Very moving film, hard to get out of your head. But goddamn it was bleak.Sælir wrote:I loved Happiness!
My favorite character was the younger sister, the one who wrote songs and played the guitar and got victimized by the Russian thief.

Watching Breaking Bad. I likes it. It's a show, I know. Can't find the show thread.

They missed that bit out of the film. In the book, Begbie tells Renton to come with him one night - they're going "trainspotting", he says. They go to an old, derelict station and Begbie speaks to a tramp. It turns out that the tramp is Begbie's dad. On the way back, Begbie beats the shit out of a stranger for no reason.tattuchu wrote:Trainspotting. Funny but...what's it got to do with trains

So state explicitly what "trainspotting" is then. You have two incidents there, the tramp and the stranger, and only chance connecting them.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Err... Yes. Re: More good movies we've seen.
Nice, understated, slick, slowish but character-driven narrative that plays out the samurai trope to full effect. Ghost Dog himself is suitable dour, and the characterisation of the the mafia, as a bunch of incompetent, puffed up, pot-bellied old men whose day had come, and gone, and who seemed to spend all day watching cartoons, was actually very funny. The film really captures that stilted, introspective feel of classic black-and-white samurai films in which men of violence stare bleakly into the camera while they forlornly endeavour to act with honour in the face of the corruption and irresponsibility of their masters. Nice nod to Rashômon too.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Animavore wrote:I've never seen itXamonas Chegwé wrote:Excellent shout!Animavore wrote:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165798/Brian Peacock wrote:Any recommendations for a modern take on the samurai movie?![]()
Remedy that immediately! Anything by Jim Jarmusch is interesting at worst and at his best he is unmatched! This is one of his best.
