UK bars American bloggers from entering

Post by Coito ergo sum » Thu Jun 27, 2013 1:25 pm

Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, who had called for the bloggers to be banned from the UK, said: "I welcome the home secretary's ban on Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer from entering the country. This is the right decision. The UK should never become a stage for inflammatory speakers who promote hate."

Where's the hypocrisy? Those videos of Choudary are old. His group of shit stirrers got banned.

Choudary still lives and does his "work" in the UK.

The Daily Fail reports him making 25,000 pounds a year off the dole as he preaches his "religion of peace." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... state.html

I bet they were jizzing in their pants writing that one. Benefits scroungers and muslims all rolled into one. Probably made up though. It is the daily fail.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

much as those two crap stirrers look contemptible (calling one's blog "Atlas Shrugs" indeed), the gummint that seems all too much pro islam also seems to need some revolutionary unseating if Blighty is to remain itself rather than soon convert to a dhimmi state within the Caliphate.

There is a lot of that sort of criticism of the Fail, but if they did make this up, wouldn't it be easy to prove? Surely they may be sensationalist without everything they write being "false?" Sometimes, the more mainstream media avoids stories which they deem offensive or which may reflect negatively on "disadvantaged minorities" and such. Sometimes it's the papers like the Fail that can actually publish truthful stories that don't make the more mainstream media sources.

Apparently, though, the Fail is not the only source on this. Here is a Business Insider article citing the Sun and the Telegraph, which reported that this Choudary fellow was recorded instructing his followers to seek the dole.
Calling it a "Jihadi Allowance," cleric Anjem Choundary, 45, has four kids, brings in £25,000, or just under $39,000 U.S. in benefits himself, and says that this is the way it is supposed to work according to Islamic law
.

Recorded by both the U.K. Sun and Telegraph, Choundary says:

"We are on Jihad Seekers Allowance, we take the Jizya (protection money paid to Muslims by non-Muslims) which is ours anyway.
"The normal situation is to take money from the [non-Muslims] isn't it? So this is the normal situation."
“They give us the money. You work, give us the money. Allah Akbar, we take the money. Hopefully there is no one from the DSS (Department of Social Security) listening.”
“Ah, but you see people will say you are not working. But the normal situation is for you to take money from the Kuffar (non-Muslim) So we take Jihad Seeker’s Allowance.”
Choudray goes on in a separate videos to mock English workers performing 9 to 5 jobs, and tells followers that some of the most famous Islamic figures worked only one or two days a week.

“The rest of the year they were busy with jihad [holy war] and things like that,” he says, according to The Telegraph. “People will say, ‘Ah, but you are not working.’"

“But the normal situation is for you to take money from the kuffar [non-believers].”

“So we take Jihad Seeker’s Allowance. You need to get support.”

He the tells a crowd of about 30 followers: “We are going to take England — the Muslims are coming.”

“These people are like a tsunami going across Europe. And over here we’re just relaxing, taking over Bradford brother. The reality is changing.”

He's British - we can't simply kick him out of the country. He's well educated as a former solicitor so he probably does find it easy to make the most of the benefit system - but so what? We can't exactly give out benefits based on 'how much do we like you'. If he's found to be cheating he will lose them - they are already very tough on fraud. He's also being very closely watched and knows he can't get away with promoting extremist views any more.

It's certainly no reason to let other minority groups stir up indiscriminate hatred and violence against anyone vaguely muslim. The best thing we can do is promote education and secularism, but unfortunately the Christians keep hindering that as well.

Well, the fact that he could be an able bodied advanced degreed professional and collect benefits in the first place seems to me ought to be considered "cheating" per se. However, that's a policy judgment. Maybe it's not cheating in the UK.

How can they be "tough on fraud?" I mean, they give the guy $39,000 a year and he clearly is engaged in "work" in the sense of advancing a cause. Is he not obliged to support himself? Again, this may be a criticism of UK policy in this regard, because maybe they don't bother much about whether a person is capable of supporting himself.

I looked at the two bloggers that were barred from the UK, and I find nothing particularly "inflammatory" about them, other than that they are critical of Islam and Muslims get all bunged up about that.

I was in Daily Mail grammar mode and thought some pub wouldn't let us yanks in.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Weren't the Kinks blacklisted by the recording artist union?

I don't think the Kinks were ever banned from entering the US.

According to Ray Davies they were. But he is a well known spinner of yarns so who knows.

However the point stands.

How does the point stand? Being banned from playing in the US by the recording artist union is not anywhere near the same as being excluded from entry to the country by the State.

I googlesed it -- they were not "banned from the US" -- they were not permitted to play because of some reasons offered by various persons -- the reasons differ depending on whose opinion is asked. But, the actual reason seems to be that they appeared at a show in 1966 in which they used non-union workers for lighting and other various crew related functions. They were then listed as unapproved by the recording artist union, and then delisted by promoters as a consequence. They were never banned. They were the victim of union bullying.
