The Bush admin did not start listening to phone calls and screening e mails till after.

I don't have a problem with Gubment monitoring my communications for security purposes, as long as they do not use any if it in court. I would even let them use GPS to track cars of suspects.

When they interfere with my normal activities I will get mad. But that will not happen, since no criminal activities happen. I have not even cheated on taxes. I guess I should learn that from some rich folks. After I get rich.

I want the Gubment to monitor anyone with more than two guns. Three if that is too much of a work load.

Where did I say they were to monitor without court order? Babysitters and grandmas can be included. Many babysitters are illegal aliens with no visa.

The people being monitired are not suspects to be arrested. The journalists.

And, FFS -- dude - the Obama Administration didn't monitor them for "security purposes." The government monitored the AP to track down a government official leaking information that the government didn't want the public to know. That's different than monitoring someone who may be receiving communications from terrorist groups.

If the government has a warrant or court order to search or listen in on conversations, then the information will be usable in a court of law. That's why I assumed you meant to remove the warrant requirement. The "as long as they do not use any of it in court" -- why wouldn't they use it in court if they lawfully obtained the information? That's like a cop with a warrant getting info related to a crime and not being able to use it in court. What sense does that make?

The Justice Department issued this statement not long after Attkisson’s claims:
To our knowledge, the Justice Department has never compromised Ms. Attkisson’s computers, or otherwise sought any information from or concerning any telephone, computer, or other media device she may own or use.

Don't you think the government taking Marylin Monroe's trysts with Bobby and John Kenneyd was wrong? I think that makes my point.

And, yes, the government can have info they don't want you to know, but that doesn't mean they have an entitlement to the information that WE have.

The same power you advocate to protect people in the field can easily be used to protect crooked government activities.

AFP - The US government's secret seizure of Associated Press phone records had a "chilling effect" on newsgathering by the agency and other news organizations, AP's top executive said Wednesday.

"Some longtime trusted sources have become nervous and anxious about talking with us," AP president and chief executive Gary Pruitt said in a speech to the National Press Club.

"In some cases, government employees we once checked in with regularly will no longer speak to us by phone. Others are reluctant to meet in person ... This chilling effect on newsgathering is not just limited to AP.

"Journalists from other news organizations have personally told me that it has intimidated both official and nonofficial sources from speaking to them as well."

Associated Press president Gary Pruitt on Wednesday slammed the Department of Justice for acting as “judge, jury and executioner” in the seizure of the news organization’s phone records and he said some of the wire service’s longtime sources have clammed up in fear.
Pruitt said the department broke its own rules with the seizure, which he said was too broad, and by failing to give the AP notice of the subpoena. Pruitt questioned the DoJ’s actions concerning the subpoena — had the DoJ come to the news organization in advance, “we could have helped them narrow the scope of the subpoena” or a court could have decided, he said.
