And once men are allowed to dress more lightly according to weather, you 'mericans could finally stop chilling down your public buildings so close to absolute zero. That would save both energy and dripping noses. :lay:

Well I'd agree that ties are superfluous and in most cases inconvenient. However we have not moved away from class based clothing, the whole point is that in the majority of situations there is a basic consensus for what is considered mininmal identifiers with a profession. Chefs hats, yellow safety jacket. I'm sure the styles have changed but the idea that a specific costume signifies something about your position in employment and society is not only prevalent, I'd say it's fundamental.

Sure, but if one of your intellectual superiors liked sartorial irony and wore on first meeting a leather kilt and a t-shirt that said "The Pope Smokes Dope" and was wearing a backwards baseball cap, I guess your first impression would be different than it would be if he was wearing a $7500 bespoke Armani suit and as such it would be easier for you to dismiss the former over the later.

Costume is part of who we are. I'd suggest outside the blind no one is immune to it's influence.

Thank you very much, but that is the correct uniform for a physicist going to Oslo to pick up a certain trinket! :lay:

Well sure, definitely. But if he was working behind the Counter at Micky D's like that you'd think it was doing a special on McPaedo lunchtime surprises.

I would be more inclined to talk to the former. Anyone who is insecure enough to spend that much on clothes is probably a bit of an arsehole.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Well I'll give you that, but I'd say they'd only be a real arsehole if they mentioned it.
