This thing can, allegedly, decide for itself what to target, though in practice there will, allegedly, always be a human in the loop. I believe there is already a pressure group in existence to try to put pressure on politicians to stop this development. I hold little hope they will succeed. It is like me trying to convince Seth that hand guns throughout society is a bad idea. Once the nasty little weasels in the military realise the power the new robots will give them, there is close to zero chance of any change.

The best method to protest this is to hack them and take control of them.

And in a way, I'm making a serious point. If these things can't be hack-proof, then the risks might just be too high in deploying them. It's one type of problem to have your PC hacked, but another level of seriousness altogether to have your weaponised drone hacked. Drones have already been hacked, and I suspect they will likely continue to be hacked. Although, I imagine when they eventually use strong hardware based encryption, these things will be near enough to impossible to hack (unless I've forgotten something about cyber security).
