A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

There's an old rule: Ten pages of the book = one page of script = one minute of film. The "ten" is being generous in my opinion.Scrumple wrote:Certainly making a little go a long way.
Anyway, the reason this has taken so long to get to the screen is partially due to some folks insistance that it be a bridge between the two books, including material from the LOTR appendices. If you've read them you can easily imagine ten movies being made from that source.

Re: Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug.
I haven't even seen the first hobbit film.
I'm so afraid of what it's going to be like. I was like a hysterical Justin Bieber fan the first time I learnt that LotR was going to be made into movies, and I traveled a long way to watch the premiere of the first film. I re-watched it time after time, and nearly cried from seeing the places in my mind come to life on the screen - especially The Shire.
I was excited for the second film, and awaited with almost as much joy.
But by the release of the third film something in me had died. I needed to see it, but I didn't need to be there at the premiere. And I never watched it again.
Now I sit left with an odd feeling of disgust about the whole trilogy. Why did it have to be so pompous and artificial? Why did it have to have so many cheap elements in it? It could have been a luxury whore, but it had chlamydia and dressed like the cheapest hooker. I'm not totally sure how it came to this, or exactly what it is, but it's the feeling I have at the moment.
And I'm afraid the Hobbit is also cheap. And pompous where it could have simply been sincere and honest. I want it to be good, but I'm afraid it isn't, and therefor haven't watched it.
I guess I will have to one day.

Normal, I didn't have much use for the LotR movies, but I thought The Hobbit was a lot of fun. Surprisingly, refreshingly fun.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.
