May I ask... exactly WHAT is all the survivalism these day in preparation for? An asteroid strike? Yellowstone Caldera? Nuclear War? Biological Attack? Major epidemic? Economic catastrophe? I find that survival fanatics usually have at least one rather specific thing in mind.

And on that note, why has the "survivalism" industry exploded in the last few years? Could it, perhaps, be because of something along the lines of the national conversation that developed in the mid-90s after Clinton was elected, which for a few years was awash with stories of local militias forming and black helicopter-sighting radio talk show whackos, up until Oklahoma City happened anyway? Could it be a general sense of paranoia, or greater-than-normal paranoia, anyway, that emerges among right-wingers whenever one of them tyrannical Demoncrats gets into the White House?

The only ones you "find" like that are the nitwits who agree to be on TV, who are put on TV to marginalize and demean those of us who are preparing for ANY sort of catastrophe. Just last night I watched a show on "American Militias" which went to great pains to find the one nutbar racist Nazi motherfucker in Arizona who goes out into the Sonora desert to look for drug smugglers all on his lonesome. They ignored the hundreds of OTHER volunteers who are NOT racist Nazis who set up observation posts along the border and who inform the Border Patrol when they see suspicious activity or border crossers who are in trouble, and have been doing so for a decade or more, despite being shot at occasionally by smugglers. They also took pains to point out this guy's affiliation with a former Marine who used to do the same thing, but who ended up killing his wife and three other people before committing suicide, which had nothing whatever to do with securing the border. The producers did this quite deliberately and intentionally, which is why true "preppers" and people who want secure borders and are willing to put in their own time to assist the Border Patrol free of charge are very reluctant to speak to the press. The ones that appeared in this show were stupid enough to believe the lies the producers told them about how they would be portrayed, and they ended up mostly looking like the fools they are.

Those of us who are REALLY in the movement don't talk to the left-wing press...ever.

That has a good deal to do with it, particularly given the new revelations that the NSA has been intercepting literally ALL digital traffic within and passing out of the US for a long time now. That means emails, texts, phone calls...everything. And quite soon it's all going to be shunted into the largest data storage facility on earth, in Utah, which the federal government expects to be in service by October.

And then there's Obama's attack on gun owners, whistle blowers, members of the press, taxpayers, etc. that justifies taking a dim and skeptical view of the trustworthiness of the federal government.

It's not paranoia if your government really is out to get you.

And even if it's not, there's still tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes, floods, wildfires, riots, plagues and a host of other disasters that might require one to be prepared to survive.

Real "preppers" are skeptics and highly rational people who know that if you don't prepare, and something happens, your chances of survival are much less than if you are prepared.

I see where you could have gotten confused when I said "300 each." Sorry, I was just pointing out how cheap they are for what you get. These probably cost the government at least $3000 each. Our tax dollars at work. I love DRMO.
