Guns you own
Guns you own
I'm down to only three now.
Remington 1100 Magnum (slight difference in the action spring so it can handle magnum 12 gauge loads)
Marlin 93G 3-9x scope .22WMR
Winchester M88 3-9x scope .308 (7.62 NATO for you milspec lovers) - my love. 3 lug rotating bolt in a lever action.. what's not to love?
Guns I sold recently:
Enfield SMLE .303 British
Cooey .22LR single shot (Canadian collectible)
Winchester M61 .22LR pump action with a 14 round tube mag (Collectible)
Remington .30-06 bolt action.. don't remember the model.. never used it.

Re: Guns you own
No, I do not currently own any semi-automatic rifles or handguns. Although my neighbour is looking to sell his .44 mag revolver.

1858 Remington cap-and-ball, .44 cal. Fun to play around with. Surprisingly accurate up to about 150 yards. I used to hunt with it during black powder season.

Why not? 99% of my guns are semi-auto.Făkünamę wrote:No, I do not currently own any semi-automatic rifles or handguns. Although my neighbour is looking to sell his .44 mag revolver.

Isn't that the gun 'Angel Eyes' carried in The good, the bad, and the ugly?

Mostly because I'm a hunter and I kill first shot or not at all, but also because my 1100 with 3" 12 guage 00 shot will make a fine red mist of anyone who tries anything untoward.Collector1337 wrote:Why not? 99% of my guns are semi-auto.Făkünamę wrote:No, I do not currently own any semi-automatic rifles or handguns. Yeah. Towards the end of their useful career, they were refitted to hold cartridges. These days you can buy reproductions and things like quick-loaders, quick-cappers, quick-patches (to seal the chambers), etc, so reloading doesn't take half of your shooting time. Fun, but I wouldn't rely on them for much else. If I were really hungry, I wouldn't hunt with one unless I just didn't have anything else.Făkünamę wrote:Nice!FBM wrote:1858 Remington cap-and-ball, .44 cal. Fun to play around with. Yep. 'Blondie' and 'Tuco' carried cartridge mods of the Colt Navy in that movie. I think that was anachronistic.. but meh. Great movie.FBM wrote:Yeah. The gun shop in town is selling mint Yugoslavian SKS complete with bayonet for something around $250. They were reserve rifles and never fired. Wood furniture, but still pretty cool.

The Chinese one is very reliable and durable. I got a spike at about 330 yards with it once.Făkünamę wrote:The gun shop in town is selling mint Yugoslavian SKS complete with bayonet for something around $250. They were reserve rifles and never fired. Wood furniture, but still pretty cool.

I'd love one of those even if they are a song and dance to reload.FBM wrote:1858 Remington cap-and-ball, .44 cal. Fun to play around with. Surprisingly accurate up to about 150 yards. I used to hunt with it during black powder season.
I heard they and your hands get caked in soot after several shots.

Didn't some cap n ball pistols have removable chambers so you could just swap the chamber out to reload - like a magazine?

Re: Guns you own
These days we have "smokeless" black powder. Still smokey, but not to the point where it cakes up on your hands. As far as I know, every cap-and-ball revolver has a removable chamber for exactly the reason you mention. And for cleaning, I guess. They gunk up in a heartbeat. I've never bothered with spares, though, because I was never in a high-pressure situation where I needed to reload quickly. I mostly just fart around and see how far away I can get and still hit the target.JacksSmirkingRevenge wrote:I'd love one of those even if they are a song and dance to reload.FBM wrote:1858 Remington cap-and-ball, .44 cal. I did love my Ruger .22 semi-automatic, with the neat little rotary magazine...

The Ruger 10/22? They're fantastic pieces of work. I've got one back Stateside. If my buddy hasn't pawned it by now, that is.
