France Hates Pappa
On this "no tobacco day" our health minister announced that electronic cigarettes were going to be regarded like any act of smoking and banned from all public places, as well as a bunch of other measures destined to make the country even more unfriendly to our tobacco addicted fellow humans.

The prejudice against electronic cigarettes is really rather stupid, IMO. I mean - there's no smoke. No ash. Nothing exhaled except for water vapor and air. What teh hellz?Svartalf wrote:On this "no tobacco day" our health minister announced that electronic cigarettes were going to be regarded like any act of smoking and banned from all public places, as well as a bunch of other measures destined to make the country even more unfriendly to our tobacco addicted fellow humans.

I can vouch that after being for hours with Pappa during which he was chain smoking, I felt not the slightest smell or discomfort, and find this silly... if I inhaled some residual nicotine, I did not show up for the worse, or even get my appetite diminished.

I take it that you smoke them e-fags, then?Pappa wrote:This is an outrage up with which I shall not put.
What's the skinny on those things?
They seem like an awesome invention to me. It seems to get all the cancer causing stuff out of there, and leave just the delicious nicotine.

Exactly as you say. They can be a bit fiddly at times, but generally excellent. Though weirdly for the past week I've been back on the fags.Coito ergo sum wrote:I take it that you smoke them e-fags, then?Pappa wrote:This is an outrage up with which I shall not put.

I smoke regular fags personally. e-fags are more expensive here.

Regular fags are much more expensive. The cost includes heart disease, strokes, lip tongue throat stomach and lung cancer, emphysema, and a life span that is on average 10 years less than a non smoker. Very, very expensive in my opinion!
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

Whereas the electric thingy is too recent, and maybe not widespread enough for its long term effects to be known... and maybe the nanny state will prevent there ever being enough data.

Unless nicotine has been the culprit all along, I'm not sure what could possibly be the cancer agent. If it's water vapor, then all bets are off and we'll have to reexamine the whole thing from the top.Svartalf wrote:Whereas the electric thingy is too recent, and maybe not widespread enough for its long term effects to be known... and maybe the nanny state will prevent there ever being enough data.

You only have to buy the e-fag once, and e-fag juice is far cheaper than cigarettes over the long term.

Compared to buying by the pack or carton? Because I buy tobacco and tubes and roll my own which cuts the price roughly in half compared to if I smoked by the pack.Seabass wrote:Făkünamę wrote:I smoke regular fags personally. e-fags are more expensive here.

Awww man, I LOVE loose cigarette tobacco rolled in EZ Wides.. get rid of that filter.Făkünamę wrote:Compared to buying by the pack or carton? Although I have no evidence for it either way -- I have a gut feeling that the real health risks are with the manufactured ciggies with the filters and such. I am willing to bet that if we did away with them and rolled our own out of good loose cigarette cut tobacco, we'd have less of all the cancers -- I bet those cancers come from all the ammonia and such that their adding to the ciggies.
Although, that may just be the woo I want to believe...

My bro used to buy cartons, and he says his e-fag expenses are a tiny fraction of what he used to spend on real smokes. And as a side benefit, he now can jog longer than five minutes without hacking up a lung.
I don't smoke though, so I'm just going by what he says.
Dunno how it compares to rolling your own.
