The United Kingdom is often held up as a successful example of gun control by those on the left. But a recent poll by the Daily Telegraph, one of England’s most widely-read publications, shows Britons themselves are far from sold on the laws.
In a poll asking readers what laws they would like to see introduced or changed, an overwhelming number of voters chose “repeal the ban on hand guns and re-open shooting clubs.”
“After all, why should only criminals be ‘allowed’ to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?” reader Colliemum wrote.
Here is a screen shot of the results, as of TheBlaze article’s publication:

In a far second place came the choice for a flat tax, at 7.59% combined to 84.53% who want to repeal the ban on handguns.
The United Kingdom passed some of the strictest gun control laws in the world in 1997 after 16 children were killed in Dunblane, England. Gun crime sharply increased in the subsequent years, doubling by 2007, according to British government crime reports.

Looks like the Brits aren't nearly as anti-gun as some would have us believe:

Re: All is not well in the UK's Socialist Utopia
So they deliberately pit "repeal gun laws" against five other incredibly stupid and/or irrelevant policies. Well done

Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

Was it a closed or open poll? Because those poll options seem.. ridiculous. Ban spitting?

Gun clubs felt hard done by when the laws were tightened. They want to go back to target shooting, not arm themselves in the way you Americans insist on doing.

What we need is more breadknifes in the UK or are they afraid of it up close and personal in the USA? What you really need is another less blood-thirsty, yet intelligent, species as top dog on earth.

The Torygraph asks readers to submit ideas for new laws, and then chooses six of them to put in an on-line poll which anyone can vote on. The creator of the winning idea gets some posh wine and chocolates. Not only is it utterly meaningless, but I would be very surprised if that hadn't been spammed by various gun club members.Făkünamę wrote:Was it a closed or open poll? Especially since the average poll they have on there gets between two and three thousand votes in total.PsychoSerenity wrote: Not only is it utterly meaningless, but I would be very surprised if that hadn't been spammed by various gun club members.
What an utter joke. Seth, try again when you have something based on reality.

I find it hard to believe that all those anti-spitting clubs the UK has couldn't muster a suitable counter-vote. Weird eh?PsychoSerenity wrote:The Torygraph asks readers to submit ideas for new laws, and then chooses six of them to put in an on-line poll which anyone can vote on. Brilliant. 5 options no Torygraph reader really cares about, and 1 designed to get their right-wing blood boiling.
You could replace #6 with "Bring back hanging" or "Bin all Green policies", etc. Same result. Doesn't mean a majority would agree, or even a majority of Torygraph readers.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
